Because of the one shots.
It all boils down to anything breaking up the flow of the main story..
Ultimately, I'd probably have a problem even if I liked the one shot stories because I'm buying the book for the fucking story, not to be interrupted every now and then.

I guess if I would've read the description of Vol 3 I would've known what it was, but I thought it was a safe bet that 3 would follow 1 and 2. It didn't, it sucked.

Well that was just fucking wonderful. It just boggles the mind that Morrison did both this and Final Crisis.
ASS is going to be a tough act to follow, but I think Gene Luen Yang is up to the task...

I read the Omnibus of that a couple of years ago. Fun stuff, it's too bad Kirby only did 18 issues.

I'm currently re-reading the Fantastic Four Lee/Kirby run through my Essentials and right now am in the 3rd volume. The 3rd one contains the best shit of one of the all time great runs so awesome. Damn I love this book.
I'm still amazed by the change in Kirby's art when Sinnoit came on board. Everything improves the faces, the backgrounds, the action scenes, The Thing fully becomes the familiar rockier version we all know and love. It's really cool to see the change.

just finished this:
goddamn. for the first (and pretty much only) time other than the pages of Young Justice, this made me really actually LIKE Bart Allen. in fact, i don't know if i didn't like this story more than most of Johns's Flash stuff too...probably in my top 5 "Flash"-related stories all-time even. it just pisses me off that much more now to think of what Johns and Didio did to him through Teen Titans and making him the Flash.

How is Jack anyways?
I love all the regular fables, but he's never been a favorite of mine.

the book's pretty fun, but i like it more for everybody else in it than i do for Jack. the Pathetic Fallacy, the Page sisters, Mr. Revise, and most especially Babe the Blue Ox make the book for me. although Jack has his moments too.

About halfway into it's run, I started liking Jack more than the regular Fables book. I enjoy the humor in the book and like Chap said, the supporting cast is great.

Babe is EASILY my favorite charcter in the book, even though he only shows up for basically 1 page per issue.
