I do artwork for Palladium, Shadowrun, and a couple other RPGs, like Conan and Babylon 5. Palladium's my biggest client, I've worked on every game in their line, from Rifts to Heroes Unlimited to Robotech.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. Are they still publishing Rifts stuff?

Oh yeah. Big year for them actually. Last couple of years have been rough for the company. An embezzlement scandal, a divorce, and one of the co-creators passing away. They're on a big push and putting out new product every month. Which is good for me since that means I'm finally getting some money thrown my way.

I just ran my first ever sessions as a DM. In the 4e rules. I have some issues with the 4e rules, but the more I play it, the more I like. It was a fairly simple two-part affair, but culminating with a 4 against 100 zombie fight. It was an interesting challenge, and the 4e rules really don't handle that kind of combat all that easily, though we made it work.

At some point, one of our guys is going to run us through a d20 modern session. I guess like Modern Warfare, but tabletop.

I'm not really pimping for Palladium, for the record, but they came out with a new zombie RPG called Dead Reign that's being received very favorably. I know it's got some good art in it!

I would check it out, but unfortunately, I really don't have the time or resources for more than the basic D&D games, with the occasional offshoot (that guy who would run it is hugely into RPGing). But thanks for the heads up!

No problem, though if you get the opportunity, check out their stuff. The nice thing about Palladium is that all of their games are interchangable and run off the same system. They encourage home-brewing and house rules. You learn one game, you've learned them all, and boy howdy, they got some variety. Keeps things interesting.

I've always wanted to play table-top RPG's.

I've played computer ones like Baldur's Gate I & 2, and have loved them. And also some console ones.

I've never known how to get started though with table-top ones, how to find a group to play with, etc.

If anyone has suggestions, lemme know.

Find a local brick and mortar hobby game shop. Usually they'll have notices posted to a message board, and often one or more nights a week dedicated to RPGs. You can probably find a group and ask about getting involved. They can show you the ropes, and a good GM will handle the rules for the most part. If they use minis for combat, you'll probably be expected to learn the basics about that aspect. Just play a fighter, get a big sword, and hack into the bad guys until you learn a little more.

This is probably the best advice you're going to get.

This is a good way to go. If you have open-minded friends, you might try to nudge them to try it out as well. Gaming is like any hobby, those who are into it may not be the friendliest. There are the min/maxers, the über roleplayers, the rules lawyers, etc. Is there a particular system you are interested in? Some of them have a good fan community with websites, discussion boards, etc. Sometimes they can help you find players too. Also sometimes local cons have a gaming element.

I used to play Rifts and Heroes Unlimited pretty heavily back in high school. Every now and then we'd have a crossover of sorts. Good times.

I never played any of the Palladium stuff.

I heard nothing but good things about the system.

I think the only Supehero game I ever ran or played was TSR's Marvel game.

I think that thing is out of print by now.

Man, that's some cool work.
