Also, I can get to the F8 menu but every option crashes.

Any friends that have a disc you could borrow? I am thinking you could try a repair install with it.

How much HDD space do you have? If you have a friend with a CD burner and internet access they could make you a linux live CD so you can surf the net for the time being.

At the moment I am thinking that it is not a third-party program or driver causing the problem since safe mode is inaccessible.

It could very well be a corrupted or modified system dll or file that windows needs for startup or normal operations.

Just about any Windows XP disc should allow you to boot up to do a repair install or access the recovery console. Without a disc, there really is no way to recover it.

Though, if there is vital or important files and info on the computer, don't format it or write over it. It can still be retrieved by many other means.

It is important to keep or save your OS disc for these kinds of situations.

To get a Linux boot disc, all you need is anyone with a PC, internet, and a CD burner. Just burn it, pop it in, and it'll load the OS from the disc without overwriting anything else. It's totally free.

For an XP disc, I'd say ask some friends if they have one you could borrow. Just do a repair though.

You can get a replacement boot/install disc from the manufacturer.

That sucks major ass! I just finished re-formatting my PC two days ago because it totally died. I've lost tons of stuff, but at least I can get on The Outhouse now :)

I´m at my sister-in-law's just now. Still no joy with the PC: it's an old Dell, and I've been trying to contact Dell IT support, but they're closed all weekend. No idea when I'll be back online properly.

I have this mental image of Houman all strung out, banging on the neighbor's door at 2 in the morning.
"Please, I just want to check my Facebook... just five minutes... that's all I ask... ...please... sir...."

Hope everything's better soon, H.
