Review Group Week 179 - BLACKEST NIGHT #1

Postby ****** » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:26 am

Image

You fuckers had better be nice to me the next 24 hours, otherwise I'm picking that book. You know which book I'm talking about, don't pretend that you don't. So it would appear that the messiah crossover has finally arrived, the crossover to make crossovers okay again. We shall see I suppose, last week's messiah comic didn't exactly trigger the rapture or anything.

Also, hello to any Review Group n00bz, feel free to participate and don't mind me, consensus is that I'm "in a bad mood". Whatthefuckever. :x

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadshee of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

Hal sucks.

I have no idea what supposedly terrible book is out next week.

Is it Youngblood #9? All-Liefeld, all the time!

Rulk #600?

What does Sire 2.0's name-in-pink mean?

I already wrote a review for this book without reading it. I'll probably just upload that one.

Sounds great! I am excited for this book, I'm willing to pay the price to see the story done like this over time. It makes me wish I hadn't sold my PKD collection last year in a financial pinch.

It's also of interest to me because this is the format I'd like to see used for a couple dream projects of mine that I putter away at now and then.

When you read it, did you automatically insert Harrison Ford's voice in your head?

No, the characterization is so much richer and honestly he seems like a different guy. I'm guessing the voice in my head was Darren McGavin's.

He really is a different guy, in lots of ways. Darren McGavin sounds like a good choice. I might try Napoleon Dynamite, but may steal McGavin as a back-up voice.

Blade Runner is a fantastic movie, one of my all-time favorites, but it is a different animal which PKD was very approving of before his untimely death.

Remember Marvel's Blade Runner adaptation?

Has anyone read Blade Runner 2 or 3? Not very good.

I seriously hope no one would consider picking the last issue of a book that has failed.

the book didn't fail.
It was awesome, if anything failed it was the Marvel marketing machine, which failed to capitalize on the book after the SI Crossover ended and allowed junior execs to run around the internet saying it had been canceled when it had not.
Sales figures do not equal quality or success (from a creative stand point).

Mother fucking 10 - loved it, can't wait to read it again tonight. I think this is going to be the best 'event' in years, especially if they don't reverse the deaths.

and I got my ring :D
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.
