First look at Manapul's Flash art

Postby LOLtron » Tue Sep 29, 2009 10:50 am

ImageSome wicked-cool sketches from the artist's upcoming run on Flash with Geoff Johns.

A while back, we reported on the news that Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul were the creative team on the new Barry Allen Flash book, but all the art we had for you was something I found on his deviantart page. But now, the DCU Source Blog has got some new sketches Manapul has done of the Scarlet Speedster. Take it away Franny:
“These were done a while back near the end of my Legion run. I tried tomake a go at the Flash and these were the sketches I did as a pitch totry and get the book. It was nixed as Geoff and I decided to doAdventure Comics (which I love and will miss very much). However theopportunity to get on the scarlett speedster arose and so here we are.I’ll actually be doing my own inks and watercolor on the newongoing (much like Adventure Comics) so this is just a tease of sorts.Enjoy.”

I don't like the first one (his head looks weird) but the other two look great.

Love the art. Manapul's really good. DC better lock him in before Marvel snags him away.

I think he signed an exclusive back when he was doing The Legion.

He'd be awesome on Spider-Man though.

The second one is clearly Wally, not Barry.

I was going to say, is Barry getting Wally's costume?

Or Fantastic Four or Guardians of the Galaxy. DC seems to me to have problems keeping their upper tier artists for too long so it's nice to see them wise up now and then.

That's why it's Wally and not Barry in these sketches. These aren't from the new upcoming title ...

All that running stretched his head to make him more aerodynamic.

They look great.

Very cool.

This guy has a nice sleek style, which I think any Flash artist should have.

I'm looking forward to this.

Not too bad but I am all ready tired of the speed bolts zipping around him.

Oh well at least he can function with them as I still have no idea how Spidey & DD never got tangled up in all thier webbing/billyclub lines.
