I guarantee stuff like this happens with every team, several times a year.

Also, most of it probably happens in the clubhouse and not in the dugout.

Well crap... so much for the Tribe's pitching depth.

Jake Westbrook is undergoing ligament reconstruction surgery, and will be out for the season.

It's not likely that either Sabathia or Lee will be traded in this case.. :(

Not unless they call up Adam Miller and he's amazing.

They're up 2-0 on the Tigers in the bottom of the third.

For 8 weeks. I'm talking about closer to the trading deadline.

I could see the Indians adding a big bat at the deadline, but not a pitcher...

No, Miller is in the Tribe farm system.. he's the top prospect pitcher, and was ranked in the top 5 prospect pitchers in the country last year.

I posted an article earlier that said the Tribe should trade Cliff Lee, a middle reliever, and an outfield prospect for a big bat like Matt Holliday and Garrett Atkins, and I would just cream my pants if that deal happened.. an OF big bat, and 3B solidified..

But I'd also be fine with dealing Sabathia for a big bat.

And his injury is on his pitching hand on it's middle finger.

And it's not like he's simply out for eight weeks. It's that he can't even throw for eight weeks. He's not seeing the big leagues anytime soon and possibly won't even pitch in the minor leagues in 08. He'll probably be rehabbing for the rest of the year, possibly until next season

Not to mention eight weeks means he won't be back until the end of August or early September if he miraculously comes back from rehab. WELL past the trading deadline.

CLEVELAND -- Oft-injured top pitching prospect Adam Miller is on the shelf again, and this time, his season could be over.

Miller, who went on the Triple-A Buffalo disabled list Monday, had surgery performed on the middle finger of his right hand Tuesday by team hand specialist Dr. Tom Graham in Baltimore to repair a strained pulley tendon.

The 23-year-old Miller will be shut down from throwing for eight weeks, according to head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. Miller will then begin a return-to-throw program in either Winter Haven, Fla., or Goodyear, Ariz., which renders his Minor League season in jeopardy.

I talked with Frag It about it yesterday and I think that the Yankees need to make some drastic changes to their team because of how aged they are becoming.

They need to make moves that simultanously make them younger as well as more versatile.

Step One IMO is to move Austin Jackson or Melky Cabrera. With Brett Gardner on the way (and I think that they should be utilizing him this season in CF by August). With an OPS of .863 in AAA so far, and some decent speed (133 SB's 29 CS's in the minors), he can move his way up into the leadoff role and set the table for the Yankees power hitters.

Melky has just continued to show a lack of ability to get on base as well as failing to get extra base hits. You need to do one to compensate for lacking in the other IMO and he needs to go or be moved to the bench as a fourth OF. Try to use Jackson or Cabrera to bolster their starting rotation. Regardless of what they say, I think that the Brewers will eventually have to move Ben Sheets as they get closer and closer to the deadline. Trade for him and sign him to an extension (basically giving him the money saved from letting Abreu go this offseason). Maybe have them throw in Jason Kendall to provide Posada some veteran relief and he has to be better than Molina or Moeller.

If they opt not to bring up Gardner, they should also try to acquire someone like Milton Bradley. He's a versatile switch-hitting OF who can play any spot out there and hits for average, gets on-base at a good clip and can hit for extra bases (18 doubles and 13 HR's so far this season in 196 AB's). He's only signed to a one-year deal and the Rangers are going to be out of contention making him available. You plug him in at CF with Damon in LF and Abreu in RF and defensively, it should be manageable while giving a much needed boost to the offense. If you bat Bradley fourth behind ARod and ahead of Giambi, he should get a lot of balls to crush.

Are you saying the Brewers would deal Ben Sheets and Jason Kendall for MELKY CABRERA?
