He pitched a gem tonight. So, does Wagner take himself to task tonight?

Im going to have to say that I think the Blue Jays are better than them defensively. Julio Lugo really brings down the Red Sox defense. Even Eckstein is better than him and they can always bring in John McDonald as a defensive replacement late in games.

I don't mind Lugo as much as I do Crisp. The Sox definitely need to beef up their bench, but comparing a healthy starting 8 for 8 (not counting pitcher) I think the Sox are stronger. With Ellsbury in for Crisp, that is.

IMO, their pitching is due to come back down to Earth, especially playing in that bandbox named US Cellular. The combination of the Tigers and Indians playing closer to what is expected of them and the White Sox regressing to their expected levels will level out the AL Central as well.

You also have to be worried about John Danks being able to last a whole season. He's already pitched 75 innings when he only pitched 139 innings last year and 140 innings in 2006. His arm just isn't conditioned enough to last a whole season.

IMO, they're probably going to trade Nick Swisher (hopefully to the Mets to fill their OF and 1B needs) for some pitching depth. They can always call up Jerry Owens to play CF for them (and it'd probably be better as it adds improved range and support for Quentin and Dye as well as adds speed)

I know the Phillies have lost 2 straight but I would love to see them get to the WS. Amend that '93 loss!

C-Zaun and Varitek. Varitek
1B-Overbay and Youkilis. Push
2B-Hill and Pedroia. Hill
SS-Eckstein and Lugo. Eckstein...loathe as I am to admit it
3B-Rolen and Lowell. Rolen
LF-Manny and Stewart. Manny
CF-Wells and Ellsbury. Wells. He's a 3-time Gold Glover for a reason
RF-Rios and Drew. Rios

I'd worry more about Contreras than Danks, but you only need a 3 man rotation in October and Buehrle, Floyd, and Vasquez are a hell of a 1-2-3 punch. Danks will end up in the bullpen if they make the playoffs.

I'd also be more worried about the Indians than the Tigers. The Indians I think can pull together and get back in contention. The Tigers are just a mess right now, and I don't think Leyland has the patience to pull them back from the brink.

I'd love to see them pull up Owens, though. I can also see them either dealing Crede, or packaging Fields with someone.

I'm not sure I agree on Youk and Pedroia. They've both done pretty well so far, and I don't think either of them has hit their stride yet. Well, maybe Youk, but Pedroia has impressed me. I think Ellsbury has a crap load of untapped potential. By the time he's been around 9 years, I wouldn't be surprised to see him with multiple Gold Gloves too. I think, if they could get rid of Crisp, Lugo and Drew, they'd be hard to touch.

That's a really average playoff rotation in all honesty. When teams are going to be pulling out trios of Beckett, Dice-K, and Lester/Wakefield/Buccholz or Lackey, Weaver and Gardland/Santana, the White Sox pitching staff is pretty middling.

I'd also be more worried about the Indians than the Tigers. The Indians I think can pull together and get back in contention. The Tigers are just a mess right now, and I don't think Leyland has the patience to pull them back from the brink.

The Tigers still are good enough to come back. Verlander is nowhere close to what he's capable of. If he starts to rebound and players like Miguel Cabrera and Edgar Renteria start producing like how people thought, they can quite easily overtake the Central. Remember the Cubs ascent in the NL Central last year over the Brewers.

I'd love to see them pull up Owens, though. I can also see them either dealing Crede, or packaging Fields with someone.

Crede's not going anywhere. Fields has disappointed and last year's production seems like a flash-in-the-pan moment. Crede is producing and he provides upper echelon defense at 3B.

Overbay is a great defensive 1B. It's why he succeeds at the position despite not being a power hitter. Youkilis has only played two full seasons at the position, so I think it'd be quite presumptuous to declare him better than Overbay who's always been good there. I also am not fond of right-handed guys at the position as it's harder for them to field and throw balls at 1B. Hence, the push.

Pedroia is good, but I still think Hill is better. He just has better range IMO. Pedroia's too short and stocky and doesn't cover enough ground

And if they got rid of Lugo, who would they play at SS? Lowrie is a crapshoot there. I love Lowrie, but I wouldn't want to bring him in midseason in the midst of a title hunt

BTW...you guys remember what I was saying about Curtis Granderson last year?

Looks like I'm being proved right this season...The Tigers are dumb for locking him up so soon

Like I said, they need to build their bench. They'd have to add a good Rf to get rid of Drew too. Not to mention some backup for Ellsbury and Manny.
