No prob, doombug. I can take a joke. I just didn't have the energy this week. Not the flu or anything, just a touch of Idon'tgiveafuck. And I think there is a pattern to my reviews...the less I like a book, the easier it is for me to eviscerate it. Especially if it is written by Bendis. :P

starlord wrote:Dark Reign: Ares #1

My first reaction when I finished reading this was that it seemed pretty obvious that Kieron Gillen must have feelings of huge inadequacy with his manhood. I've never read anything this testosterone heavy, and I'm including both volumes of my beloved erotic stories: "The Bear That Took Out the Marine Corps." Top it off with one of the biggest cliches in the history of story-telling "Ah, you've tried to kill me, you've learned the lesson I was trying to teach you." and I couldn't help but start laughing out loud. Really! My husband was actually asking me what was so funny. Then Gillen tries to turn it around in the last two pages by having him worry about his son.

I loved the issue of Dark Avengers that Bendis wrote where Ares confronts Fury. That was actually a well rounded and three dimensional anti-hero that I could get into. This Ares, he's funny, I'll give you that. But then, I rolled my eyes at all the Rambo movies too. So what do I know.

LOVED the art! It saved this from being a lower score. If this was meant to be saterical, I'd give it a solid 9. But I actually think this was supposed to be serious.

Story: 4
Art: 9
My Score: 6

Congrats to starlord on posting his 100th Review Group review!

The fuck it was.

Every comic I bought last week was much better than Ares #1.
