The Great Disaster is upon us, and while Darkseid and his new New Gods keep the Justice League busy, Per Degaton, Johnny Sorrow, and the Injustice Society take advantage of the chaos to strike at their most hated foes. Under Degaton's plans and knowledge of the most opportune moment to strike, Sorrow uses the Cosmic Key and his own powers to free/resurrect the King of Tears, and the JSA is devastated under the attack.

However, as has always been the case, the JSA survives, and familiar faces take new roles as the Society is reborn anew!



Yellow Peri -- already (unbeknownst to her) the potentially most powerful mage on earth, teenager Loretta York is chosen by the helm of Nabu to become the new Dr. Fate
Donna Troy -- the woman without a codename finally gets one, as she becomes the new Power Girl
Rip Hunter -- the Master of Time joins the team as the new Man of the Hour, to cancel out any advantage Degaton gives the villains
Ralph Dibny -- in his omniscience, the Presence has decided to "power down" his new Spirit of Vengeance (to prevent occurrences such as what happened in Infinite Crisis), granting the role instead to the ghost of Ralph Dibny, to instead mete out vengeance in his own irrepressible way
Zauriel -- to make up for the Spectre's depowering, however, the Presence has boosted Zauriel's angelic powers, and further allowed him to fight this last battle for the fate of the universe as the new Hawkman
Tim Drake/Robin -- who better, or more fitting, to become the new Mr. Terrific?
Catwoman -- as vengeance for and in honor of the death of her long-time friend and sometimes "playmate", Selina Kyle takes over as the new Wildcat
Obsidian -- no, he's not a doctor, but who needs blackout bombs when the new Mid-Nite makes his own darkness?
Geo-Force -- while Sandy was the first to die at Sorrow's hands, G-F is the last to accept the call, finally accepting that his earth-based powers qualify him alone to be the new Sandman

The Time Trapper gives Despero the opportunity of the ages - a chance to alter history and become the universe's greatest conqueror and strategist. Instead of destroying the Justice League at their weakest moment, in an act of supreme hubris, Despero and his temporal army kill the Justice League when they are at their greatest.

Once the JLA falls, the JSA and Young Justice fall shortly thereafter. The Great Disaster ends up being not only a disaster of great significance to the DCU at that time, but also to the DCU's history/continuity.

Hearing of the Great Disaster, Captain Comet returns to his homeworld and rallies a new Justice League in honor of the fallen. With the aid of the Linear Men, the new Justice League will begin recruiting more heroes for a battle that will encompass space and time, and set things back as they should be.

Kidding. Some great choices. Dr. Occult as Batman that is great. Would he be more into the supernatural cases instead of basically the Arkham Loonies.

My one question though and not sure if I read this right and this is nit picking is this the permnament JLA? or is this just temporaty till the other JLA can come back?

In this alternate reality, Nimrod journeys to the past before Rachel Summers and viciously murders the X-Men and the New Mutants. When Rachel arrives and finds the smoldering corpses of her father and his teammates among the ruins of Xavier's mansion, she sees how fruitless Xavier's message of a peaceful coexistence was. Now that her past is as non-existent as her future, Rachel realizes she has no home, thanks to humanity, and vows revenge. Using the X-Men as martyrs for her cause, she enlists the help of other mutants that will provide vengeance for the X-Men.

Our story starts off with Doom being chased by the Avengers. He found a great power that could destroy the Earth as we know it. The power was a cosmic cube. In order to prevent disaster, 9 heroes were gathered to take out the cube. Unfortunately, they had to sacrifice themselves doing it. After this happened, Spiderman stepped up for all heroes and decided it was time to put an end to villains once and for all. He took on Captain Americas name and costume, and was joined by 8 others having taken the other 8's names.

Kitty Pryde as Spider-Woman for some reason works. I don't know why but I can see it.

Justice as Captain Marvel makes so much sense I wish Marvel does it.

Sister Grimm as Scarlet Witch is perfect.

I must admit there are some I can't wrap my head around but that is just me. But the more I think about some of them the more I see it.

Secret War!

having finally snapped and discovered a way around the nanotech infused into his Thunderbolts by Stark and the government, Norman Osborn hatches a deadly plan to rip the entire Marvel U Initiative apart. using mixes of mind-control, planted spies, covert sabotage, and overt actions by all the villians who have been laying low since Civil War began, Norman assembles a newer, bigger, deadlier, and more succesful Masters of Evil than ever before. in the new MoE's wake, whole teams are devastated, heroes captured, SHIELD gutted, and heroes killed. in the wake of this new threat, the one man who saw it all coming from the very beginning makes one last-ditch effort to make it right, to stem the tide of evil running rampant throughout the Marvel U, and to redeem his own family name and mybe even his soul in the process. taking the name and ideals of the man who was once his most hated enemy, Baron Helmut Zemo becomes the new Captain America, assembling a new team of true Avengers to make one last stand against the MoE:





knowing he has a bit of a credibility problem, Zemo first recruits Hawkeye, who has developed a modicum of trust for Zemo through their time with the Thunderbolts (this is also symmetrical with Cap's first recruit in the Avengers Return arc featuring Morgaine le Fey), who takes on the old classic red-and-gold Iron Man armor. from there the team fills out:

Hawkeye -- Iron Man
Justice -- Capt. Marvel (i admittedly stole this one, but it's a goo idea, and led me to my next one...)
Firestar -- Ms. Marvel
Sunspot -- Power Man

and yes, i know that's only 8. i couldn't find micros for my last member, but it's Old Lace as the new Devil Dinosaur.

Zemo as Cap words can not express how great that is.

The Great Rebirth: Green Lantern

Hal Jordan once again sacrifice his life to save the universe. Killed while helping his once enemy Sinestro delivers the final blow to the Black Monitor. His ring seeks out one who is worthy to replace him once again it comes to earth and find the one person who could truly carry on the Legacy of the Green Lantern, the hero known as Nightwing. But will Nightwing turn his back on the Batman Family when they are dealing with the death of one of their own? He will if the Guardians have their way.



The Great Rebirth: Cyborg

The Hero known as Cyborg gave his up his existence when he downloaded his program into Warworld. Taking it over, Warworld is now more it is now Cyborg World, now that the Great Disaster is over Cyborg World goes out into the universe as a planet for the world less. But what about his body? Hank Henshaw Aka Cyborg Superman found it. And he is putting it to good use. His body was badly damage while trying to save Superman from the threat of Superman Prime and Superboy Prime. Now a merging of the two means the Cyborg lives on. But what will the his friends think when they found out? Will this Cyborg be accepted or will he be a Outsider?






The Great Rebirth: Aquaman

Atlantis has fallen along with her King and Prince. Aquaman and Tempest along with Ocean Master fell while defending her against The Megalodons. Atlantis is down surfaced and helpless. A called was sounded out for protectors. And one was found the hero known as Animal Man and human who can defend her from surface dwellers and those that are still in the sea that seek to kill the remaining Atlantean. But to become the new the Aquaman he must sacrifice a part of him to become one with the sea, he agrees and they cut of his hand. The Lady of the Lake appears once more and gives the new Aquaman a mystic hand. Now Atlantis have a new defender. But will he last as old enemies seek their gaze on the weaken Atlantis.




The Great Rebirth: Flash

Jay Garrick-Dead, Wally West-Dead, Jai and Iris West about to be dead. Zoom decided he couldn't make Wally into a better hero so he had to kill him Jay Garrick just got in his way. Now Zoom is about to chose who gets to be the next hero and the next vitcum. Suddenly a darkish red blur appears out of no where grabbing Zoom. As soon as it was gone it was back a new Flash, garb in black red and silver. He bends down and tells the kids he is sorry. Now just for Wally but for Bart. For all the pain he heaped on the West family. He told them no one will hurt them again. Linda demanded to know who this new Flash is. He just shook his head and sped off. This Flash has a lot to make up for, will he succeed? Or will his Thawne side come back to haunt him?

It would be the permanent JLA until they could succeed in their mission. So if they're successful, they're temporary. If they're not successful, they're permanent.

I guess that makes them temporarily permanent?
Or temporally permanent.

Don't really understand Gambit as Cyclops.

Well, I was thinking of a field leader that could also attack from a distance (i.e. energy projectors). I originally had Crimson Commando, as he has been portrayed as more of a villain, whereas Gambit is on the charcoal side of the "shades of grey".

The only question I might pose is whether or not this particular team has the magical power base to deal with the Undying Ones. But that question does not detract from the fact that this is one very kick-ass team.

Thanks. I could have been more clear on this, but the lack of magical power base is kind of the point why this group of Defenders really is a rag-tag bunch. While there are some seriously powerful people (esp. Ikaris) that could survive a huge calamity, I figured the Undying Ones would take out the most powerful threats, especially those that are magic-based.

Victor Stone's remains being absorbed and used by the Coast City co-mass-murderer Hank Henshaw?!!? That is either effin' genius or horribly wrong (maybe both).

While I would never buy Henshaw as a good guy, I don't know that any other hero would, and that is potential for a great story. (Hell, that should have been how Hal's situation was, but I digress...)

I'd love to know what, beyond the common name "Cyborg", made you think of merging those two.

Animal Man as Aquaman is brilliant. The only thing I don't like about it is the cutting-off-his-hand part. If I had to give up something, I'd offer a pinky toe, an earlobe or love handles.

I frickin' love that costume. Always have, always will. As for Inertia working on the side of angels, I could kinda/sorta see it, given what he's done in the past year.

Eh, it happens. I thought people would be going OMGHOWCOOL on Travis Morgan replacing Aquaman, but instead, maybe it was a suckafish idea?

Sunspot is cool, though. Is he still around, and is he still flying? I thought that was the best thing to happen to his character. (And yes, I'm completely forgetting about Reignfire.)
