The best way for me to hype Football (sorry, I refuse to call it soccer) would be for me to recommend you watch some Euro 08 matches. Tonight we have Holland vs Russia, and I reckon it's going to be an exciting game.

I just don't see how watching a ball go back and forth with no consequence and very little result is that exciting.

You know what, I'm usually a big time soccer-hater... but while I was in Romania, I watched alot because that's all there is there (that, and handball) and it kind of grew on me. I watched the Manchester United v. Chelsea match, and did get caught up in the excitement of it all.

And I've caught a few Euro 08 games in the past week.. mostly because Romania was doing better than I thought.

But.. I think I get more caught up in the spectacle of it than the actual games. I like it because it's a championship game, or because it's Euro 08, rather than the actual games. Because I still don't think I could sit down to see just a regular meaningless soccer game and enjoy it. There has to be something on the line.

Football isn't like that. Sure, it doesn't score like basketball, but even a 0-0 draw can be exciting. You kind of have to have an attention span, but still...

A lot of that is down to the fact that you didn't grow up playing it or supporting a team, though. The US is about the only country in the world that never really got into football that way, so kids aren't born into it the way they are with baseball or basketball.

I kinda liked how my 8th grade history teacher put it. "I predict a final score of 0-0 and 10 fake injuries before half-time."

That's true. It's also not readily available. Sure, we have MLS, but that's even more boring than european soccer. Pretty much the only time they show soccer here is for big events like the World Cup or Euro 08, or such.

To be fair, basketball has their fair share of fake injuries.

If I see one more player have to be CARRIED off the court, only to return minutes later jumping around all heroicly, I'm going to hurl.

I'll show why football rocks through football videos!

I'm not kidding when I say these two moments are probably the greatest moments of my life.

The first one is from 1999. Man United and Arsenal are in the semi final for the biggest cup in England. They draw and the game goes to a replay. After 90 minutes of the replay the teams are again tied. That's 180 minutes of football been played and nothing is seperating the teams. If Man United win, they have a chance of winning the three biggest trophies in football, something that has never happened before.

And then, oh no! Man United have thier captain sent off, and Arsenal have a penalty awarded. But then the keeper saves it! And the game goes into extra time. After 180 minutes the players are knackered.

And then Ryan Giggs did this.

Absolutely genius.

The second one is from the same season. The Champions League final. All the best clubs in Europe go into one big competition, and this is the final. Man United had allready won the FA cup, they'd won the Premierleague, and this was to win the treble, something never done before or since.

Just watch this video to see how it goes.

The players reaction shows why football is the best sport in the world.

I could watch that again and again.

You only need to watch the first few minutes to get the gist.

I tried watching a few MLS games - they're really poor. It's kind of a shame, really.

What I'd like is for the US to do really well in a World Cup tournament. I think that will pique the public's interest.

People who think football like that, obviously have never give it a chance.

Pique?

I can't see him in the MLS, he's just gone to Barca....

That's the worse joke I've ever tried.
