One thing I have to give props to soccer for is the players...
You've gotta be in insanely good shape to play the sport. They do more running than in any other major sport.

Yesterdays match, Croatia score in the 119th minute, Turkey lob it up the pitch and score in the 120th with the last kick of the ball and then win on penalties having destroyed Croatia's spirit. Look at the faces of the Turkish winners/supporters and Croatian players that missed and i dare you not to feel something.
That's for the emotion side of the game, for the quality watch Holland/Russia tonight

Hockey has the best playoffs in all of sports, a 2 month long war of attrition to hoist the most famous trophy in sport.
Then you have the Penalty Shot, which is in and of itself the most compelling moment in any game on the planet.
Bow the fuck down.

I still remember watching the '99 final: words can't describe how it felt. I'm a lifelong Manchester United supporter, and it was just the most astonishing feeling. When Solskaar's goal went in... my goodness...

From what I've seen, football has hockey beat. Hockey is only good for fights and the Flyers.

That's why football is insanely awesome. I've never got the hate for draws that people in America have, that's one of my pet peeves, draws being unpopular.

Yeah, I was only 9 at the time, but can still remember it. I was in Spain at the time.
Just like I'll never forget Terry's miss this year.

There's no way a 4 game run to win the title in single elimination format beats 4 best of 7 series. 16 W to win the cup.
Bow the fuck down.

Yeah, that's way too long and pointless.
Two months for a playoffs is just overkill.

Number of games played has nothign to do with how good a sport is.

Says the NBA fan. The playoffs take just as long in the NBA as they do in the NHL.

And I think they're overkill there as well.

At least you are consistent.
Personally I agree, but only because I think too many teams make the playoffs in both leagues. I'd like to see it cut down to 6 teams with the top two getting first round byes just like in the NFL. Most teams would still need 16 wins to get the title, but the top teams would only need 12 and the first round would go by faster.

Extending the first round was greedily idiotic. At least this year there weren't consistently 3 days between games.
