In honor of our 4 year anniversary and as decided by group vote, Week 208 is a FREE4ALL!

What does this mean? It means you can review whatever book you want and as many books as you want! Anyone can participate, the Review Group loves bringing in new members so this is the perfect opportunity for anyone and everyone to join in the fun.

Sounds pretty simple, right? I though so, so I'm playing my tyrant card and adding a twist.

The more books you review, the further up the pick ladder you're going to climb. Review one book, you'll move up the list just like normal. Review 2, 3, 4 books, etc., you'll move the corresponding number of spots up the list. To keep it fair and balanced, there are a couple of rules you have to follow:

1. For a comic to count as one of your reviews, it must be on Diamond's shipping list for February 3rd.

1a. Review any comic with a #208 issue number Old Man style.

2. The Review must be at least 208 words. No pellet reviews, if you want to move up the list you'll have to earn it.

The deadline to get your reviews posted for the ladder climbing will be midnight on Tuesday February 9th (Kerny will maintain his position for February 10th to ensure we have an on-time pick for next week). Before next week's thread goes up, I'll tally the reviews and update the Member's list with the results.

The jumps will be applied by the lowest total jumps first in order from top to bottom progressively until the top reviewer has been applied. If a reviewer reaches the top of the ladder without using all of his or her jumps those will carry over and be applied the week after his pick. If two reviewers land in the same spot, the reviewer with the most credited jumps will take the first position.

Choker #1
as selected by Kerny[/center]story BEN McCOOL
art & cover BEN TEMPLESMITH

ISSUE ONE: PAIN
Industry superstar BEN TEMPLESMITH teams up with writer BEN McCOOL for this deliciously skewed tale of hardboiled noir. Johnny “Choker” Jackson, once one of Shotgun City’s most promising police officers, is a bitter private detective with a terrible case of Alien Hand Syndrome. But he’s unexpectedly been offered a job back on the force: provided he can nail a twisted drug dealer selling a very exclusive product. $3.99

Image
If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

Tell her it will give you something to do during the 72 hours of contractions she will be experiencing.

She's going for a c-section. The trouble is, when I'm not at the hospital with her, I'll have to be home with the kids. :( But I don't want to lose my spot on the list when everyone else does reviews. When do Marvel's digital comics come out? Not the same week as the paper ones, right?

It's time for me to order comics this week.

Also, Amlah pmed me asking me to say something this week, since as many of you know, I did start the review group, and I am in many ways the best owner the group ever had. I don't really know what to say though except thanks for all doing this and keeping it going for so long.

Siege #2
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Olivier Copiel

"Stupid superhero books.
Always pulling me back in."
This is what I said as I finished reading this comic.

You see, I like the different, I like the little things, and as excited as I was for Dark Reign after Secret Invasion, half a year later, I was exhausted. I gave up on New Avengers, Dark Avengers, Secret Warriors, Deadpool, etc. Blackest Night was boring me as well. Suddenly, the only standard cape and tights books I was reading was my beloved Spider-Man and my favorite of the big two, Batman.

At the end of this book, is another script. It is Nick Fury rallying his troops and all of a sudden I realized what I was missing out on by giving up the ghost on issue four. That was some bad ass shit! And there weren't any pictures.

Okay, to the comic itself. Badassery abounds. Ares figures out that Norman played him and he is pissed, but oh shit that's mofo Sentry acting like he grew a pair. FINALLY. The big yellow guy gets down to business and rips Ares a new one, literally.

Meanwhile, Jarvis is trying to get the band back together again. Cap has got some Warriors and some New Avengers. Oh yeah and Thor is gonna kick some ass. Hell yeah. Kid's gloves off, bust some heads action.

I love it. Only things I am confused about... one who the fuck was the old man that tells Ares about Asgard not being there by some mistake and what does he mean that Thor's dad is alive? Next, that's Ares' kid that Nick tells to stand down, right? Yeah I guess I gots to pick up some Secret Warrior trades or something.

And it was nice to see the correctly printed script page from last issue and unlike Marvel to put out a new one to fix the mistake. They almost show some class.

It is easy to understand after this issue why Bendis worked with Hickman on Secret Warriors, only question is why is SW not crossing over with this.

Unfortunately, my questions (the ones about this book) aren't answered on the page so I give this book the following score:
story - 8
Art - 9
Overall 8.5

Little girls and their delusions.

I blame Yoni for the group lasting this long, only he could have saved us from the clutches of Punchy's tenure.

Cinderella From Fabletown With Love #4
Written by Chris Roberson
Art by Shawn McManus

First name your story after a David Bowie song.

Then have a flash back to WWII era Bigby.

Next include the Cobbler who is possibly my favorite Fable since Kevin showed up in Jack.

Mix in a little harem or two and some sexual tension between Cinderella and Aladdin and I will call you a fun ass comic.

The fact that this is a spy story with some elements of Scooby Doo thrown in here and there makes it brilliant.

Roberson has matched Willingham's tone perfectly and McManus, well he recalls Medina, Buckingham, and Pepoy - all while somehow conjuring Cameron Stewart to the party.

Oh yeah, and on top of this scrumptious dessert for Fables fan, next issue we get to go see a new Homeland territory. YAY!!!!

Puss in Boots and Aladdin remarking on how crazy talking animals are as assets is just the cherry on top!

Story 9 (it would be a ten, but the whole feminism thing is a bit preachy in this issue)
Art 9
Overall 9

If I copy thefourthman's reviews, run them through a translator to another language and back to English again, can that count for mine?

Wall #2
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art for Olivier Copiel

"Dull books of the super-hero. Always pulling me in."

This is what I said while I finished to read this cómico. You see, I taste of the different one, I taste of the small things, and so excited as I age for the dark kingdom after the private invasion, half one of the year later, I was depleted. I gave above in Avengers new, Avengers dark, private warriors, Deadpool, etc. that the night also pierced most black me.

Suddenly, only the handle and books standard of the pants jousts I age reading was my loved Spider-Man and my favourite person or thing of the two great ones, batman. In the extremity of this book, it is one another certificate. It is fury of Nick that regroups its troops and suddenly I carried through what I lacked for I am on giving above the ghost in edition four.

That age some excrement me of the donkey! E there weren' t some pictures. Approval, to the proper cómico. Badassery abunda. Airs appear for are that it played it to the Norman and it is mijado, but oh cagou that' sentry of the mildew of s that actua as a pair grew. FINALLY.

The great yellow individual começ for low to the business and tears Airs a new, literally. Meantime, Jarvis is trying to receive in return the band together another time. The drain plug has some new warriors and some Avengers. Oh yeah and the Thor is going to retrocede some donkey. Hell yeah.

Kid' the gloves of s are, break the action of some heads. I love it. Things I am only confused on… one who the fuck I was the aged man who says Airs on Asgard that is not there for some error and what it makes means that Thor' paizinho of s is alive? After that, that' s Ares' caçoe that Nick says to leave, right? Yeah I to assume gots of I to pegarar some private commerce or something warlike it.

E was pleasant to see the page correctly printed of the certificate of the last edition and in contrast of the wonder it stops for it are a new to repair the error. They show almost some classroom. It is easy to understand this edition after because Bendis worked with the Hickman in private warriors, simply the question is because he is the interruptor who does not cross itself on with this.

Unhappyly, my questions (these on this book) aren' t answered in the page as soon as I give to this book the following counting: history - 8 Art - 9 8,5 totals
