If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

That's the point, it's what makes the book interesting.

no it really doesn't, in fact, it makes it pretty predictable.
It's really pretty and there is great character work, but the conceit is obnoxious.

You're obnoxious.

The reasoning behind Bras dying every issue is apparently a mystery which will be explained in the series.

unless this issue does some major revealing, we are a third into the series with nothing but random death. Having read Pixu and Mesmo Delivery Service, I don't have enough faith in them as creators to believe that this going somewhere. It is a nifty creative writing experiment that would have gotten them a B in college.

patience... pessimism?
I have read enough of their work to know that they tend to just go (eventually nowhere) and this book has all the tell tale signs of that . I like it, a lot and if this were issue one or two, yeah I would be with you it will get high scores, but solid character work and pretty art isn't going to get it a pass forever, something needs to progress in this issue to make me care going forward. The funny thing is all the trade waiters on it are going to be super annoyed because the conceit will be way more obnoxious in a single sitting read.

How do you know this issue won't have any progress?

I think you're too jaded, when good art, great character work and the fact that you liked #1 and #2 aren't enough, you need to take a step back and ask what you're looking for in your comics.

You don't want to become the stereotypical hyper-critical comics reviewer.

I want a story and I don't know that it won't have progress, but this is not my first experience with the creators.

This isn't jaded. I love the hell out of comics. If I were jaded I wouldn't have read The Twelve Spearhead, which so far this week is far and away the best thing I have read.

It's not jaded to use the experience I have had with the creator's work and the experience I have had with the book so far to form an opinion about the current issue. It is what we all do. It is what makes us drop books or keep them or add them to our pull list.

This book has everything, but a story, and a story is the primary thing I look for in a comic book.

Just because I don't fall over myself in love with something you do doesn't mean I am jaded, it means I have a different opinion than you and obviously, different expectations.

But you've said you like it! You're being too harsh I think.
