I enjoyed the movie at the time it was released and even bought the DVD, but after reading the book last year I can see why the movie was so maligned. I can't even imagine what they were thinking when they made Johnny Depp a heroin addict. Depp can't play a normal detective, he has to be a junkie? Really? :?

You know, I actually like the movie. A lot. When it's hazy and quiet and slightly chilly outside at night, me and a friend of mine call it "A From Hell" night. It's got a great cast, (Ian Holm is one of my favorite character actors) and it has that David Fincher black as night, hopelessness to it.

I honestly just look at it as a seperate entity and not an Alan Moore graphic novel adaptation.

I enjoy them both.

The film is okay, but not great. It lacks the impact of the book, in my opinion.

Depp's character, did he also have premonitions in the book?
