Xavy Sick Update

Postby kingbobb » Sat Jun 28, 2008 9:37 pm

I'll stop hijacking the Wizard World thread with this.

So Xavy woke up at 4am this morning...not in anticipation of getting to the Con, but because he's sick and apparently getting 4 hours of sleep is what his virus calls for. He was up and down during the morning, but he didn't have another seizure. He did complain about his eyes and head hurting in the afternoon, though, so we made a trip to the ER.

Everything came back negative, and there are a couple viruses going around right now that the kids must have picked up in Milwaukee this past weekend. They had to draw blood, though, to check for meningitis or other blood things, which was difficult for Xavy. Asking a 2 year old to understand blood drawing is a bit much, but the worst part for me is after they were done, but we were waiting for results, and Xavy cried "can we go home now, where it doesn't hurt anymore?"

Of course, as I was typing this, he had another seizure, so we'll have to see. The Dr. doesn't think we need to go back to the ER, so long as he comes out of it normally.

I'm sorry to hear that, Bobb. I hope he's feeling better soon! Is Neva sick too?

Neva came down with it on Tuesday, so she was feeling much better this evening. Still a little feverish. The thing is she's still nursing, so she's not missing any meals. Xavy hasn't eaten much in the past 2 days, although he's done pretty well keeping his fluids up. He even passed on ice cream and cookies tonight, so that says a lot about how crummy he must be feeling.

I checked him a bit ago, and he's much cooler, although he's sweating a lot. It'll be a cooler night tonight, in the low 70s, so we should be able to have the window open and the door closed, meaning no cat to disturb us.

I had seizures as a kid. I don't want to alarm you, but you might want to get an EEG test. I had childhood epilepsy which I eventually outgrew.

Hope everything goes well.

We've had both kids in to see a neurologist, and both have had EEGs. Neva had some spasm activity, but has never shown any signs that she's going to seize. Although Xavy didn't have his first until he was the age she is now, so we watch her closely when she gets a fever.

None of Xavy's tests have ever indicated that there's anything more serious than childhood febrile seizures. I had at least one when I was a kid, and Vicki's family has them as well.

He woke up before 4 am today, and wanted to try and sleep in his bed for a while. He took some more medicine, which he had been trying to refuse the past couple of times. He put up a pretty feeble fight again this time, but took it readily enough when I brought it to him. About 4:45, he asked to get up, so he's on the couch watching Caillou now. He asked right away for some juice, and he's very much his perky self again, drinking some yogurt milk now after eating about 1/4 of a cookie. He'd been pretty much refusing all food for the past 18 hours, so asking for anything is a great sign.

Hopefully yesterday was the roughest part, and he's on the mend now.

I'm glad to hear he's on the mend Bobb. It's always pretty terrifying when they get that sick...
