So has everyone been reading this except me and 48?

:crosses fingers for a repeat of 52 Week Fifty-Two:

Also, I talked to Mike Gaydos and he said you guys are punks.

At least I'm sure that's what he'd say if he actually knew we existed and I had really talked to him.

S.H.I.E.L.D. #1
selected by JubileeWRITER: Jonathan Hickman
PENCILS: Dustin Weaver

Leonardo Da Vinci was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. So was Issac Newton. So were Imhotep and Zhang Heng and Galileo and many other geniuses throughout time. They were the first heroes to defeat Galactus and the Brood and turn Celestials back. They saved the world long before Captain America or Iron Man were ever born, but what does this mean to our heroes of today? What does this mean to Nick Fury? Do not miss this Marvel Comics masterpiece that fans will be talking about for decades to come. All the insanity is courtesy of JONATHAN HICKMAN (FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARRIORS, Nightly News) and DUSTIN WEAVER (X-MEN). Rated T …$3.99

If you would like to join the group it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. Going forward, there is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make with the new format is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays.

I'm currently re-reading Blackest Night, only the main mini (#0-#8 ), not the GL or GLC or any other tie-ins, and it seems kind of disjointed.

I haven't even read threads about it or flicked through it in store. If anyone dares try and fill me in on the plot so far I'll, um, be cross.

I suspect Twiglet and Punchy to do nothing but bitch and whine about how this is "worst series ever".

It's little more than Rainbow Bright fan fiction, IMO.

In all fairness, it wasn't well executed. While I thought some of the tie-in books were pretty strong, this did not need to be 8 issues long, and it did not need to be a non-GL event.

Siege is a better event. And for the first time ever, there should be more issues in the series not less.

I think I said all that when we reviewed the first issue.

I've been surprised with how much I've enjoyed Siege. Given how tight it's been, I think four issues is about right.

Blackest Night had some cool stuff, but it was way too decompressed. The Flash/GL stuff at the beginning was needless; this was a GL event and should have stayed that way.

While I could discuss the entire series, this is just about issue #8.

It's a beautiful book. Wonderfully drawn by Ivan Reis. Every page is detailed and works with the flow of the story. The massive double page spreads a joy to behold (an the quadruple page spread is the highlight of the book.

Story wise, it's a little predictable. We always kinda knew what was going to happen, but not the why's and the how's. Now we do. It's still top notch Geoff Johns written and there are enough unpredictable moments within.

As for spoilers...
Sinestro loses his White Lantern status
Hal takes over as the White Lantern
Hal brings along some friends to be White Lanterns
Nekron bites it
Some dead characters return to the real world of the living.
Everybody knew Aquaman, J'Onn & the Hawks would be back but I never saw the likes of Boomerbutt, Hawk, Max Lord & Osirus as returnees.
Sadly Kendra Sanders is gone
Because Shiera is back!!!!!
Ralph & Sue - still dead :(
Ted Kord - still dead :(
Deadman - not dead
