Can someone recommend me the best Dark Tranquility Albums?

Postby ZombieRed » Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:19 pm

I checked out Into the Void upon eyp's recommendation and it was pretty good. So I want to check out some of Dark Tranquility albums but they have a lot of them. Where would you guys say is the best place to start? (Btw the Dark Fortress and Dream Evil albums were awesome too eyp, good call).

I'd get the first one and work forward. Most gothenburg bands got weaker and weaker as they went on. I'd get The Gallery.

Dark Tranquillity is one of the few Gothenburg bands that (IMO) did not get weaker over time.

DT goes through phases, at the moment they're in a real Melo-death phase. If you like this sound check out Final Resistance. It's my personal favorite.

For something a bit more melodic and kind of experimental, check out Projector. Lots of clean vocals on that one.

I recommend getting their entire library. I'll throw all their stuff onto shuffle and find new songs I never knew I liked.

Personal favorite songs:

Monochromatic Stains
UnDo Control
Doberman
Feast of Burden
Zodiakal Light
Tital Tantrum
Emptier Still
Haven
Mine is the Grandeur
Insanity's Crescendo
Scythe Rage Roses

and if you really like the melodic death metal sound, be sure to check out the rest of the influential Gothenburg Bands. IMO these are the best:

At the Gates "Slaughter of the Soul" This album is king when it comes to melo-death.

In Flames "Clayman" or "Whoracle"

Soilwork "A Predator's Portrait" "the Chainheart Machine" Both albums are a great combo of Melo-Death and Groove Metal

Damage Done is the only must-hear piece in their catalogue. Everything after is highly derivative of that, and nothing before it stands out.
