Yeah JMS is sweet. He wrote some great Spider-man stories, a good Strange story, but then his run on Spider-man ended pretty poorly, and his F4 was pretty shit. It's like DC waited for a popular writer to be turned against, whilst Marvel snapped up some up and comers and turned them into stars.

And I mean this in a good way (sort of).

There isn't much substance, but he keeps it exciting at least.

I'm not a big fan, but I can see the appeal.

I was going to say I can't, and use an example from the end of Ultimate Avengers V1 involving the Red Skull's confessed motivation to it all as an example why not, but people would bitch for the spoiler:
At the end of it all, he confesses to Fury that he did it all and stole the cosmic cube because he really just always wanted his mommy & daddy to be together.
I'm very pleased they've got Lemire doing DCU books.

Yeah. But there's virtually zero chance I'm going to buy a book about Superboy's early days in Smallville at this point.

I don't think JMS has anywhere near the fan base he used to.

It's about the current Superboy, set in modern DCU.

Yeah, I imagine he'll write that for a year, a character I couldn't care less about, before Marvel snap him up onto an exclusive.

I thought almost all of JMS's Marvel stuff was crap.

Strange was horrible, IMO.

I really disliked the Morlun/Spider-totem thing.

And wasn't he responsible for the Other?

Not looking forward to his Superman run...which is why I'm not buying it.

I don't see why JMS is bothering to write some Hyperion and Power Princess knock-offs when he gave up on the real deal in Supreme Power!

I think DC has a pretty good stable of writers. The problem, for me at least, is that very little of the DCU has any kind of long-term vision. It feels very much like they're just making it up as they go along.

His Brave & The Bold has been decent.

Yeah, some storyarcs in his ASM run were poorly conceived (though arguably well executed) and his Fantastic Four was very dull, but Supreme Power, Twelve, Thor, first half of Amazing Spider-Man, Silver Surfer Requiem, and his creator owned Book of Lost Souls were all amazing projects. And to think that Superman is where is real passion has been all along, I'm very optimistic about his upcoming run. My only hesitation is whether or not DC has matched him up with an artist what will do the story justice.

I was pretty surprised Hickman didn't end up on a Vertigo book, although I fully expect Aaron to do another book with them after Scalped wraps up.

Jason Aaron seems like such a natural choice for a Batman book.

He did a Penguin one-shot in the first Joker's Asylum.
