Let's get better acquainted!

Postby audreyloves_ » Sat Jul 03, 2010 6:50 am

As a new member, I'm really enjoying my time here but I've only gotten to know a few of you. Most of you obviously know each other, but there are a handful of new people and while I can't speak for them, I'm at a loss sometimes knowing where to jump in.

I was thinking that maybe we could make a bullet list of interesting facts about ourselves to get the conversation ball rolling and see where it goes from there?!

*Note, I'm not trying to be narcissistic, I just want to know more about ALL of YOU

I'm Audrey, I currently reside in Minneapolis MN, in a section near the University of Minnesota called Dinkytown. I'm 21 and a graphic designer, and I am indeed bisexual and it has been mentioned in several threads.

I ...

- don't own a car, I try to walk or ride my bike to most places.
- love to travel and have been fortunate enough to see many parts of the globe and intend to see much much more of it.
- am very small and have been likened to a pixie, elf and/or porcelain doll. I HATE being short and skinny for several reasons, but mostly because everyone picks you up when they hug you.
- have long red hair and wear girly sweaters and dresses everyday. I own two pairs of pants and rarely leave the house without a little makeup on and my hair done. My fashion icons are: Betty Page, Zooey Deschanel, and Emma Pillsbury from Glee.
- no longer have Facebook due to an ex stalking me and I have no intentions of opening one again.
- will not post photos of myself and realize this is a double standard because I would like to see your photos. I'm trying to keep my internet profile on the down-low and hate the idea of pics of me floating around for just anyone to see.
- am clearly paranoid and traumatized, no worries it shouldn't affect you much.
- am using this place as an outlet to escape my "real" life. I will flirt with you, but please don't read into it.
- am a book worm.
- am a serial dater.

Hey Audrey!

I'm cursed to live in Fresno California (born and raised). I lived a year in San Diego, but otherwise spent lots of time visiting L.A. & Frisco. I've been to Hawaii for a week long graduation present & once was a featured soloist at the Reno Intl. Jazz Festival but those are the only two times I've been out of state. I've had the opportunity to visit other places but family obligations mostly kept me close to home. I keep meaning to go to Vegas but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

The first car I owned was a Honda Civic (the exact same model/year/color) that Bruce Willis wrecks in Pulp Fiction - but I owned mine before that movie came out. :) The car I currently own and have owned longest is a rotary engine RX-7 two-seater. Both cars are early 1980s models.

I've had lots of jobs that seemed cooler than they were. Currently I'm unemployed.

I'm heterosexual but if I were a chick I'd be bi, I'm sure.

I'm brown skinned. Lots of races mixed in me but the spanish, mexican & apache seem to rule. I turn 41 this Sept.
I have a salt & pepper beard and mustache. I generally only cut my hair once a year, when summer comes, and by the start of every summer I've got a lengthy pony-tail to cut again. When I do cut my hair I'm not opposed to spending $50-80 to get a good looking cut.

I'm good in a crisis, have studied multiple martial arts, and am a proud owner of an iron jaw.

I burned out on homepages about the time every grandma got one. I never did Facebook/MySpace but I'm sure it's cool for those that're into it. As an amateur graphic atist myself I sympathize with your reluctance to post pics. I certainly don't want people photoshopping bodily fluids onto my smile 'n circulating that shit. When I have posted pics I usually (at minimum) put a color filter on it so the whole pic is green, or red , or whatev. But I'm paranoid enough that I don't even use my real name here. Maybe after you've been here awhile & I get to know you better I'll offer up pics (etc).

As to using this place as an outlet to escape real life - well, welcome to the club. :)

I'm mostly a movie & tv nut but I read a book every now 'n then. I've got many longboxes full of comics but haven't been able to afford that habit for awhile. In the winter I enjoy playing pen & paper RPGs.

Feel free to ask anything else you might wanna know.

P.S. My all-time favorite band (really a duo) is Steely Dan. Don't read into their name.

Hows it going! I am a the man of many names around here but you can call me Troy!

I live in a very small town in Georgia but am originally from South Carolina, just a good ol' southern boy through and through.

I'm married, going on 7 years now, have a awesome little boy that will be 4 years old next month.

I'm a pretty big dude, 6'4" and weigh any where from 220 to 250 just depends on the time of year. Short spiky/messy brown hair, either sporting the full beard or at least a mustache and goatee at all times, never clean shaven, thats to much hassle.

I am a big comics fan obviously, Thor being my favorite at the moment. Digging all the Avengers stuff and mostly just reading Marvel Comics right now. Love horror/zombie movies as well, hell anything to do with zombies is cool with me! I live by the motto 'Shoot'em in the Head, they all Stay Dead"!

I am a big sports fan as well, love NFL and college football, NBA and college basketball, hockey, and Nascar! Favorite teams are the Carolina Panthers, Clemson Tigers, Chicago Bulls, Carolina Hurricanes, and #88 Dale Junior!

Love wrestling as you would see if you check out the wrestling thread sometime!

I love tattoos, have almost a full sleeve on my right arm and plan to do the left at some point when I can afford it.

I work at Wal-Mart currently in the Connections Center, selling cell phones and I actually really like my job for the first time in a long time.

Don't have a lot of self confidence and suffer through some depression issues sometimes but for the most part I am pretty level headed guy now.

Hope you enjoy your time in this nuthouse!

I've been married for six months. I'm a teacher. I'm a pretty a sensitive dude and prone to overreaction, but I've done a good deal to curb that. I'm also stubborn when it comes to some things. I provide the only unbiased perspective on wrestling promotions in the wrestling thread, apparently

My widdle puddin' will be 4 later this month.

Started reading comics back in '75 (100 Marvel, 0% everything else)
Started driving in '80 (a Chevette)
Started dating (mainly cheerleaders) the day after I started driving
Stuff happened...
Still reading comics (90% DC, 10% everything else)
Still driving (thankfully not a Chevette)
Married Melody in '01

And that about covers it.

Troy - I'm going to be in Charlotte & Atlanta later this month - where's your "very small town"?

Its been a long time since I last did an introductory post. At 47 I am one of the older posters (though I know at least one who is older than I am) and I am, to my knowledge, the only grandparent.

I live in Victoria, BC and work in a bookstore. I’ve worked there for almost nine years and worked in another one for three years before that.

I married young and have two adult children. I remarried not that long ago and now have a three year old.

I read mainly indie and small press comics and Batman titles, though lately its been a lot of Dark Horse (Mignola-verse) and Image (King City, Jack Staff) titles, plus things like Mouse Guard and Rasl. I am currently getting a dozen Gotham related monthlies.

Comics forums are my primary means of online socializing. I have had a Facebook account, but I’ve given notice that I will be deactivating it on July 10.

Welcome to the OH, audrey! I don't have as much to say as the other cats here, but I'll give you a quick rundown.

I'm 33.

I've been married for 4 years.

I live in Greenville, South Carolina.

I work in advertising. I started out as a graphic designer, but I've been an art director for 8 years. It's a bitch of a business, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I live a streamlined lifestyle. Small house, old car, cheap clothes, but I have no debt and a decent amount in savings.

I like baseball (Red Sox and Braves) and college basketball (UNC).

I have two cats. One white. One black.

I play some xbox, but not as much as a lot of people.

I stay away from the drama. Both here at the OH and in real life.

As far as comics go, I am mostly a Marvel reader, as well as Vertigo, Image, and indy stuff. I don't even bother with mainstream DC anymore.

I can draw pretty well, and I used to want to draw comics, but I gave it up somewhere along the way. I still doodle from time to time, but due to my career choice, it doesn't relax me like it used to. I think I only have so so much creative stamina and my job exhausts it.

There are pictures of me floating around here somewhere if you really want to see them.

This is a good idea for a thread. Perhaps it should even be stickied.

I'm Jude Terror. I'm the Webmaster Supreme, which means that I do a lot of programming and administrative stuff like posting the news, organizing the front page, and interacting with publishers, but the site owner Lord Simian actually gets all the money (approx. 4.2 cents per day in advertising revenue). This is the deal with all the site staff, though the offer is always standing of special favors from Starlord.

My "wife" Amy Terror posts here as well. I say "wife" because though we live together and have three children (Phoenix, Coraline, and Holden Hawkeye, ages 4, 2, and <1 respectively), we are still not officially married. That is happening next October, and everyone at the Outhouse is invited.

We live in New Jersey where I'm the manager of a sort of regional branch of a non-profit company.

In the 90s I was the ultimate badass and I wore denim and leather jackets with super cool spikes and studs and stuff, which leads everyone here to be really jealous, which is why they refer to it as my "bedazzled" jacket and make fun of me. I am vocal about hating shitty music, and await the album that will one day save Rock N' Roll.

I hate liberals. I love X-Men Forever! I am obsessed with Chocodiles, a chocolate covered twinkie type snack cake that has been discontinued on the East Coast for fifteen years, but is still available on the West Coast. I once went on a convenience store tour of Los Angeles buying all of them I could find so that I could bring them back home. I shared them with GOSD and SgtMarvel.

I'm the guy to contact if you want to write for the front page, or if you have a special programming request for the forums.

Just because I don't know how to spell the language of some tiny African nation doesn't mean that I'm wrong in thinking that your attitude towards women is 100% wrong. Obviously, you're some skinny, single nerd living on the East Coast who probably derives value in life from wrestling matches, hoping that Wolverine gets to sleep with teenagers and engaging in casual drug use. You're literally the worst thing to happen to comics since Stan Lee.

Hi, my name is Christian, but people generally call me BlueStreak.

I'm 23, engaged to one of the most awesome people in the world, and work as a textbook manager by day. It's a glamorous job, filled with high stakes baccarat, gun fights and the occasional fuck you from customers for raping and pillaging their wallets.

I live in Columbus, Ohio, and am generally knowledgable about sports. I hate ESPN with a burning passion due to their yellow journalism standards.

I've been reading comics since I was a kid, but have been actively collecting for about 5 years now. However, I make up with my lack of experience with enthusiasm and willingness to learn shit about comics.

I was the 8th person to sign up for this place way back when, but I fell off the board (and the internets) for a while. I used to be Chap's sidekick on OldRama, but nowadays, I'm more like the Nightwing to his Batman. That means I'm just waiting for him to get shot back into time so I can become Chap23.

I also occasionally write for the front page, and should probably get back to the review, column and interview I'm currently working on.
