The 'A Song Of Ice And Fire' Thread

Postby Punchy » Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:48 am

Ye ask, and ye shall recieve.

There may be spoilers here for people who haven't read all the way up to A Feast For Crows, so, beware I guess.

This here is a thread all about George RR Martin's series of fantasy novels that aren't really that fantasy, and are better than 90% of the genre, and it's also about the upcoming HBO adaptation of the books, A Game Of Thrones.

So, to kick-start discussion, let's kick off with who our favourite characters in the books are, and our personal favourite moments or something generic like that.

Also, news on the TV show front, they've cast Littlefinger, and it's Aidan 'Tommy Carcetti from The Wire' Gillen, which is pretty fucking perfect if you ask me.

Awesome thread.

And Aidan Gillen is perfect for Littlefinger.

Favorite characters: Arya, Bran, Jaime
Easily my favorite moment is either the Red Wedding just because it was so shocking or when the High Septon locks Cersei up.

The last Arianne chapter when the Prince of Dorne reveals his master plan for revenge is awesome too.
It's a pity David Rappaport is dead, he would've made an excellent Tyrion.

I've had 3 kids since the last novel came out. All that I remember is the ugly dwarf, the left handed sister fucker, and a bunch of beheaded Starks.

I'm going to read Clash of Kings over the weekend.

I'm looking forward to this.

I have two of the books in mass-market paperback. I will sell them for $10 (together) plus shipping.

Someone buy them please.

Peter Dinklage is Tyrion, and he will own.

My personal favourite characters are Tyrion, Jon, Davos and Brienne, I also sort of like Jaime, but he's still a bit of a bastard. The only character I really don't like is Daenerys, she just annoys me, but hopefully once her story becomes more involved with the main plots, it'll be better. When she's swooping over Westeros with a load of dragons, taking names.

My best moment is in A Storm Of Swords, when
The Red Viper is fighting Gregor Clegane in Tyrion's trial, just gripping stuff.
I'm hoping we get to see some photos of him in costume soon.

I wonder how they are going to do the Red Wedding on television if they ever get that far.

And to be honest, I still like Eddard as my favorite character.
Even though he is beheaded in the first book
Still have that final Fred chapter to finish. Sometimes it's good to change gears, though, so I did that today, and completed the last Barney chapter.

So that's one more viewpoint done with, at least.

If only I didn't have so many of them...

For the UK people. GRRM said it will be on Sky because they both all the rights to HBO content. I thought that the BBC invested money though.

I read the first book and enjoyed it despite how grim it was (not usually my thing). I'm waiting until the series is finished to read the rest though. I've already had one author of a fantasy series die on me before he finishes, and I don't want to start another long burning series and have some catastrophe happen.

It's too good to wait man!

Stories are about more than just endings.

Oh, and BTW Charles Dance has been cast as Tywin Lannister
