I get what you're saying there. Still, I kinda like Picard because of his cerebral approach compared to everyone else except Da Sisko.

Actuall, that was late 80s you're thinking about. Like I posted, once Roddenberry died (1991), the show took more risks with the characters and explored conflict in a much more militaristic manner.

Maybe I'm being a heretic, but I find most of TOS to be kinda bad. There are a few diamonds in the rough, but it's surrounded by all types of cheesiness.

It's all about context, imo. If you watch it with contemporary expectations, you'll only be disappointed. If you watch it keeping in mind that there were no other shows like it, it's fascinating, especially given its optimistic view of humanity's future in light of the chaotic 60s.

And it cracks me up every time I see a hot black girl with a bluetooth in her ear--I immediately think of Uhura. :-D If only Roddenberry could have lived 10-15 years longer, he would have seen that much of his future vision come to pass.
