Sorry, but you haven't lived until you had one.

I have probably 100gb of music on my PS3 and another 50 in videos.
But then I bought the PS3 for it's media capabilities (I only have 2 games for it and one is FF13 which sucks)

Yes, some people like more then one or two albums.

That's exactly why. It doesn't cost them any more to add storage space but they can charge more for it.

I have a 250 GB hard drive, and about 150 GB of movie files on there, and that's not counting anything I could download from the PSN.
Also, don't forget about game patches and updates and DLC, which can add up.

See I have a lot of movie files too but I keep them all on my PC. The PS3 can still play them from there. And I don't believe updates and DLC for games take up that much space.

It does add up, especially when you get into mandatory installs as well. But if you are downloading Qore, and the videos and buying media on the machine, plus uploading your own photos, creating videos and uploading them to YouTube, that takes space. If you want to remove the drive from your PS3, you are always welcome to do so.

I think some people would rather not be forced to buy it to begin with.

If the space is there and getting cheaper all the time, I'd rather gunk up the ps3 with movie files than my computer.

Some guys have to hide their porn.
And there are definitely more of them then there are people whining about storage space?
Seriously who the fuck does that? It's like whining that your engine has too much horsepower.

I'd just rather have the option of buying varying storage sizes and not only the biggest/most expensive one.

Would you rather live in a world where you could buy the car that fits your needs and your budget or a world where you can only buy the most expensive car with the 500hp HEMI V8 super charger that you don't need at all?

There were smaller ones. But to keep the price the same Sony keep discontinuing them instead of leaving them on the market and dropping their prices.
