It does stand on it's own, but the issues leading up to it enhance it, IMO.

The comics that follow are nothing to sniff at either.

Maybe I should buy the hardcover . I have the original issues so banged up that I don't feel like re reading them.

It would depend what comes with the hardcover. If there's something new, like maybe somekind of behind the scenes feature or something from Giffen's sketchbook at the time, it would be worth it. Otherwise, tracking down a TPB copy might be a better idea.

You're right. Does anyone here has the HC? I'd like to know if there is something that justifies the extra bucks.

Not really. It was more like the beginning of the end for the series. It led to the series' more darker tone with Giffen's return and the FYG.

Yes really. It was good stuff Mr.Gloomygus.

I also wouldn't say it was the reasoning behind the FYG. That was the Bierbaums, Giffen and the editors. Nothing to do with Levitz.

Awesome stories are still awesome stories. :-D

I recall Giffen saying that FYG was an extension of the series' direction in the Levitz years. The team was leaving the early twenties and heading to full adulthood by then.

And seriously, the stories after #50 weren't really that great. With the possible exception of the Emerald Empress story.

Thanks for your personal assessment and opinion. Also, note that did not contradict what I said.

Meet mine, there were a number of good stories and not just the Emerald Empress one.

Paperback (if you can find it) 192 pages
LSH #287, 290-294, Annual #3

Deluxe HC (when it comes out 11/23) 416 pages
LSH #284-296, Annual #1

Yeah - I'd say there's significantly more in the new printing.

The Zymyr story was about the only thing close to being good outside of the EE story. The Blok story wasn't good. The Magic Wars was bad. There was a whole lot of "meh."

And saying Levitz wasn't at fault for aging the team way too much and writing darker stories like the Time Trapper conspiracy and the last year of the Baxter series is a little much.
