WEIRD WORLDS #1
Written by KEVIN VAN HOOK, AARON LOPRESTI and KEVIN MAGUIRE
Art by JERRY ORDWAY, AARON LOPRESTI & MATT RYAN and KEVIN MAGUIRE
Cover by JUSTINIANO
Welcome to one of the weirdest titles DC has ever assembled – 6 issues filled with stories of monsters, ghouls and far-out cosmic craziness!
Each month, you’ll be treated to new 10-page chapters in three exciting serials. In this debut issue, Kevin Van Hook and Jerry Ordway bring you the continuing adventures of Lobo, everyone’s favorite Czarnian (after all, he’s the only one left, so he’d better be your favorite). Aaron Lopresti introduces you to his newest creation, the kind-hearted monster called Garbageman. And Kevin Maguire takes you to the farthest reaches of outer space with the introduction of a hero called Tanga!
Wrap it all up in a cover by the amazing Justiniano, and you’ve got a truly monstrous hit on your hands! These artists are letting their freak flags fly – join them, why don’t you?

[size=85]Zero has next week's pick.

If you would like to join the group, it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. There is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays. Also you'd better keep in mind the Amber Atoms rule, if your pick isn't reviewed by 2 or more people you will be exiled from the Group for 1 year. Our definition of a single issue comic is limited to comics listed at $3.99 or lower, anything above that is off limits.

I'll be contacting members this week about their desire to stay involved with the group.

List will be updated with colors and any new members I missed at approximately 10:30 PM EST, Wednesday

I think this book is just so DC can hang onto the rights to publish the title "Weird Worlds" and not lose them, which it hasn't done since the brief run in the '70s.

Administrative Notes:

1) Action Comics column will be up this weekend barring an impromptu trip north this weekend. Suicide Forest will go up post Greg's review.

2) Just a reminder, if you need to be excused from participating for a particular week, it's easier to PM me if possible. In the midst of the kvetching that goes on in here, I sometimes lose them during the day.

3) Anniversary Week is coming. If you have a suggestion on what to do, I suggest you make it now, otherwise I'll move forward with my plan starting this weekend.

4) On a personal aside, if columns become...delayed (more than they already are), I apologize in advance. My wedding might be getting moved up a year from next summer to this summer so I'll have to start managing my time a little more effeciently. Have no fear, though. Darcie understands that I need to devote at least an hour a week to Review Group so it shouldn't be a problem.

That was good of that one guy to re-write a Swamp Thing story since DC won't publish a Swamp Thing story.

Nope, no pregnancies. We were going to wait until after she graduated college to get married, but due to her school switching from quarters to semesters, another year got added. So, why wait and deal with the stress of a large expensive wedding when we can do one on the cheap this year instead?

I'm playing a wait and see game. Sadly this wasn't the worst comic of the week for me, but damn was it close.
