Your Top Creative Runs part 46

Postby misac » Tue Jan 18, 2011 1:29 pm

Today we will break into the top 25! First up, three books that just miss that milestone. A work of metafiction, a re-imagining of a classic team for the modern age, and a book I'm thrilled did as well as it did.

And so it begins! I love the opening selections -- they are always a surprise!

thoughts on the opening group:

Night Force -- when this book came out, i was like 6 or 7 (remember reading the 9-page preview in Brother Blood's 1st appearance, NTT #21...yes, i just recalled that from memory, i am a huge geek), and as of that time I was a fan of neither horror genre comics nor Gene Colan (i know, i know...stupid kid); now, it's a book i'd really like to get a hold of and read

Quasar -- i've only read the first half of this run (through about issue 35 or so, wherever the Galactic Storm issues were), but that stuff was great; Cosmos in Collision was especially fun; man, i miss Gru...

Power Company -- love Busiek, love Grummett, never had any interest in this book, even when they brought Firestorm (a personal fave) in late

Stars & S.T.R.I.P.E. -- i LOVE this book; right up there with Flash and JSA vol. 1 as my favorite Johns work

Great to see that this is finally out.

With that out of the bag, I haven't read any of these runs.

Gene Colan is one of my favorites, and Nightforce making the list is cool.

The fact that Tomb of fucking Dracula, the book that Nightforce was a pale imitation of, didn't make the list irritates me to no fucking end. :smt011

I mean, seriously, that's the book that gave us Dracula in the Marvel U, Blade, and some of the best art of the 70's, and it missed the fucking list. :smt011 :smt011 :smt011

I should read Stars and STRIPE and Quasar some day.

I sucked at this list, I wish I'd thought of Dracula. :-(

DC is doing one of those DC Comics Presents of Night Force in March!

I told you guys in the teasers that the last place book, or at least the lowest book with more than one point, was a book that was a ripoff of a better book that missed the list.

Pay attention to my teases!

Ouch. That's a big oversight on all our parts!

I blame the older fans like you more than the people like me. Mostly because I don't want to blame me.

In this case, I deserve the blame.

Nightforce - How is it a book I never heard of made it but a great book like Tomb of Dracula got the shaft?

Quasar - Always heard great things but never read it.

Power Company - A decent book but I dropped it early on. Busiek in the DCU just never grabbed me that much.

Star and Stripes - I LOVE Johns JSA so I should probably check this out.

Nightforce is literally Tomb of Dracula done slightly worse and without Blade, only in the DCU.
