Last week on Review Group Drama: Seven reviews, seven pages of musical talk. Sounds about right.

“The surprises in this issues—and what comes next—constitute one of the biggest events in Marvel history,” said David Gabriel, SVP Sales & Circulation. “When you see the plans that Tom Brevoort, Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting come to fruition, you’ll know why we say this is the story everyone will be talking about. We urge retailers to look for a major incentive announcement in Diamond Daily and stock up not just for January, but for the coming months as the aftermath of this issue is revealed.”

This is it—the end of the Fantastic Four. But what could bring about such a stunning change to the fabric of the Marvel Universe? There’s only one answer—Fantastic Four #587.

REVIEW GROUP ANNIVERSARY has next week's pick.

Image
If you would like to join the group, it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. There is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.

Image
Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.

Image
If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays. Also you'd better keep in mind the Amber Atoms rule, if your pick isn't reviewed by 2 or more people you will be exiled from the Group for 1 year. Our definition of a single issue comic is limited to comics listed at $3.99 or lower, anything above that is off limits. Also, to prevent utter filth being chosen deliberately, the Weird Worlds Rule has also gone into affect. Any book scoring a new all-time low (2.68 as of today) will not count as a miss if people wisely choose not to purchase it. Any poor soul who did review the book will earn a free pass on a book of their choice.

I'll be contacting members this week about their desire to stay involved with the group.

List will be updated with colors and any new members I missed at approximately 10:30 PM EST, Wednesday

Yay, I steal a day away from Royal's week!

And we had to do something to keep last week's thread on page 1 or 2 and not like 8 or 9.

Quotes like this make me want to head-butt people:

Hickman added that his story's overall direction moving forward will "converge in a new thing that will be exciting and different and yet, very familiar and very much the same.

Really? It'll be different and exciting while also being the same and familiar? Wowwee!

Marvel decided to spoil this book for me by sending us a press email with the spoiler in the title Marvel Entertainment Extinguishes the Fantastic Four's Human Torch. How could I publish an article titled that? Ugh.

I'm calling it now: HERBIE will be a member of the reconfigured team. Just like he was in the TV show.

I'm very conflicted on this. Looking forward to reading it though I will miss the character in question.

I don't know how the Fantastic Four will be the same without Herbie. :(

 So the two smaller shops near me decided that the best way for them to capitalize on Marvel's boondoggle here would be to not open them until tomorrow and send away all the people who went to their shops on a Tuesday for this book.

I don't know if the early release date was unclear to them for some reason, or if they are just stupid. The guy at one of the two was even a dick about it, oddly enough, ensuring I wouldn't spend a penny there in the future. :smt102

I guess this is what Jude means by many an LCS deserving their fates.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't Hickman's best issue on the title but it told all three stories very well and while the death was only ever going one of two ways it still sucked like a good death should. Proper review tomorrow but it'll be a good one.
