If you would like to join the group, it's easy. Just post a review and I'll add you to the member's list. As long as you stay active, eventually it will be your turn to make a pick.

With $4 comics becoming the norm, the economy being what it is and the growing popularity of mail order services the Review Group recognizes that it's becoming harder and harder to commit to participating each and every week. As long as you can post one review per calendar month you will stay in the member's list. It doesn't matter if you post your review the week of it's release or if you post it later. There is no such thing as a "late" review.

The only request I make is that if you don't plan on posting a review or if you're going to be posting late is that you drop a note in the thread so that I can keep track of who is active and who isn't. The Spreadsheet of Doom is thorough, but it can't read your mind.


Comics are to be scored on a scale from 1-10. 1 being suck, 10 being a damn good comic. Beyond that, there's no right or wrong.


If it's your week, you must announce your selection by 5pm EST the day Diamond releases it's shipping list. If you do not announce your pick at that time, I will add a poll to the thread that will remain open until 12pm EST so that the group can make the selection for that week. (If you're seriously MIA, I'll probably put the poll up sooner) To ensure that you know it's your week, I will PM you when Midtown's list goes live on Thursdays. Also you'd better keep in mind the Amber Atoms rule, if your pick isn't reviewed by 2 or more people you will be exiled from the Group for 1 year. Our definition of a single issue comic is limited to comics listed at $3.99 or lower, anything above that is off limits. Also, to prevent utter filth being chosen deliberately, the Weird Worlds Rule has also gone into affect. Any book scoring a new all-time low (2.68 as of today) will not count as a miss if people wisely choose not to purchase it. Any poor soul who did review the book will earn a free pass on a book of their choice.

I'll be contacting members this week about their desire to stay involved with the group.

Heroes for Hire # 3

I didn't even know this title was relaunched. I haven't seen it on the stands and did not know it existed until I saw it listed as a rg pick. DnA on the writing duties though was enough to get me to try this particular issue out.

It seems like the central plot of the book is a mystery, just what is up with Misty Knight? This of course does not come to light until near the end of the book, until then we get a somewhat boring adventure with Moon Knight, and some odd behavior from Paladin. As a result I felt the first half of the book was underwhelming, but when the Paladin, Iron Fist, Misty plot came to some sort of a head, it got pretty awesome.

Likewise I felt that the art was lackluster until this point as well. The action scenes were really incredible, but the talking head scenes were not that great. Misty Knight in particular was drawn to be rather ugly.

A complaint that has nothing to do with the issue, the plot point about Misty not being pregnant is really stupid.

Anyways overall I liked the issue enough to pick up the next one if I see it, but it's a farcry from DnA's cosmic stuff up to this point.

I don't know, I thought it was pretty awesome to see Moon Knight take out a dinosaur. The revelation that the "merchandise" was women and dinosaurs from the Savage Land livened up that storyline for me.

This was a really tight, well paced story with great art from Brad Walker. I don't know a lot of these characters, and this issue didn't give me a great sense of who these people are aside from mercenaries/heroes. But what this book lacked in character made up in exciting action and a fast paced plot. And I'm glad to see Brad Walker doing a monthly book. He's a real talent.

Couldn't agree more with this. Any time the action slows down or we get a good luck at Misty the art starts to suck but whenever there's kicking and punching it's pretty damn good. Walker draws a great Puppet Master too.

I thought this was the weakest issue yet, but it was still pretty good. The art's been inconsistent but it seems to step up when needed.

I've enjoyed the one-shot story format as well. In theory, it's a good way to keep new readers from getting too lost.

Guess what though? I made almost $400 bucks off of Hickman's FF last week! And I still have all but 2 of my "deathbags"!

No, see, that was the key almost everyone else missed--not the deathbags. There was immediately a glut of them for cover price or little more (or less sometimes) on the market and still is. And you know they still had copies of the deathbag in the shop on Wednesday--truly a sign of no scarcity there. BUT! I went out during the icestorms and bought up all the first print copies of issues #583-586 that I could find. And especially of issue #585 I found quite a few. The first time I bought a stack of #585s and listed them for $20 each they were almost literally sold by the time I'd made and eaten lunch that day. So I immediately bought all the rest and did the same. Issue #583 was selling for absurd prices, you don't even want to know, but they eventually stabilized around $30-35, but it being the first issue in the arc it was much harder to find more than a few copies of and I used most of them in runs of the full "Three" storyline with a deathbag--which sold for more than $75 per set. Even a run of 2nd or 3rd printings would get you $35-45 bucks and I put together a couple of those too when the 1st printing bonanza dried up. So I still have over half my actual deathbag issues which I am hanging onto until I can do a little better with them individually or, who knows, run across some more of the other issues in the run.
