Well the older stuff being brought and collected is pretty good in some (Vertigo) cases, and as for the second part I agree completely. I can't think of a time it's ever worked well.

Off the top of my head:

Formerly Known as the Justice League
I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League
Justice League: Generation Lost
Booster Gold
X-Men: The Hidden Years

I hope that in the JLI one Max Lord gets kidnapped and replace with a evil clone.

At this afternoon's DC Nation panel at San Fransisco's Wondercon, Dan Didio announced RetroActive, a series of one-shots reuniting DC's iconic characters with the writers most famous for guding them through the 70's, 80's and 90's.  While no shipping dates were announced, it was revealed that each book would have 26 pages of new story, 20 pages of classic reprints and be priced at $4.99 each.

The writers of these special issues are as follows:

Superman: Martin Pasko, Marv Wolfman, Louise Simonson

Batman: Len Wein, Mike W. Barr, Alan Grant

Wonder Woman: Denny O'Neil, Roy Thomas, William Meissner-Loebs

Flash: Cary Bates, William Meissner-Loebs, Brian Augustyn

Green Lantern: Denny O'Neil, Len Wein, Ron Marz

The JLA: Cary Bates, Gerry Conway, Keith Giffen & JM DeMatteis

Excellent. I will be checking out most of these, ESPECIALLY the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League. Coincidentally, I've been reading the Simonson era of Superman in recent months...

The problem is, "new" doesn't come with "improved" in the DiDio era.

You go enjoy Dan and the Gang's poor-fanfic-level hackwork.
As for me and my house, we will enjoy the pros. 8)

My favorite incarnation of the league was by them. Yeah it was silly at many times, but also very fun.

And God knows we can use fun in the misery-laden, "let's retcon Ice into being from a borderline-racist depiction of thieving Gypsies" DiDio-era DCU. I hope Giffen/DeMatteis take some time in their JLI book to neuter that idiotic notion.

Or will he just blame Didio anyway?

I blame your lack of knowledge, actually.
Clearly, you're unfamiliar with JLI history. :P

Naw, I just didn't bother to read who they were going to put into that.

Seriously, though, I'd wouldn't mind for them to do the JLI ongoing when it comes out. Things ARE too grim in the DCU at large, (though Herald, you really should know that Winick is keeping it lighter in his stint writing Power Girl). A nice lighter JLI book by the old masters wouldn't hurt.
