I've got the first book but have never read it. I don't have HBO other than this weekend but I can always torrent the show. Maybe I'll read the books and then just catch it when the blu-ray comes out.

I don't have cable but my friend does and she is also the person that got me to read these books years ago so I am gonna watch it with her but we will be a week behind... I am almost done re-reading the book, can't wait to see how they put this to screen.

Good to see Strict fundamentally misunderstand a TV series like usual.

I thought it was great. I'm curious how it will play for people who never read the books.

They added some things and made some minor changes, but they were good and necessary.

I hope the writers of Walking Dead take notes.

Walking Dead would work terribly as a tv show if it was just a remake of the comic. We have a much higher expectations for tv than we do comic series.

I disagree.

The parts they kept from the comic were great.

The parts they made up were awful.

And I'm not one of those people that believes a show/movie needs to stay completely faithful to the original material, but in terms of Walking Dead, it should have.

Just watched Episode 1, I couldn't wait for the UK airing on Sky Atlantic (it has fucking ad breaks).

Really good, it was like the book come to life, but the scenes they added were also really good, that was the difference between this and Walking Dead, in that show, the non-comic stuff they added was bad. The opening credits were amazing too.

I think Tyrion, Robert Baratheon and Viserys are the best acted characters so far, but they were all good, I can't wait to see more of Arya and Jon. Daenerys was hot as hell, some top nudity.

If I am allowed one incredibly pathetic nitpick, it's that Sandor Clegane wasn't burned badly enough, but that's minor and me being lame.

Other than that, nigh perfect.

So, People have been telling me to read this for a couple years now, and I finally bought the book this weekend. Where should I be in the book before watching the first episode? Or is it all mixed up and I need to finish? Thanks.
