Marvel announces the writer for their MMO

At a press conference Thursday night in San Francisco, Marvel announced that Bendis will be writing the story for their MMO.

Unlike DC's, players will be able to play as the actual Marvel characters and the game won't have a subscription.

The game is expected to follow current Marvel continuity with a mixture of the movie verse and Avengers cartoon. Players will essentially make their own continuity.

The main villian is expected to be Dr. Doom, and players will choose from such mainstays as Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-man and Squirrel Girl.

How is it an MMO if you're not creating your own character? Are they just going to be 200 Iron Men and 700 Wolverines running around on each server? Sounds not a lot of fun to me.

I was interested in a Marvel MMO. Boy, it sure would be exciting to create my own Marvel style hero!

Oh, wait. There's no character creation? *And* it's written by Bendis?

if its like the Super Hero Squad one that currently is in beta it should be fine.

I'd prefer my Initiative idea but we'll see how this goes...

How is that sustainable? Unless you're going to make something like "Hydra's Lair sponsored by Mountain Dew" work, the costs of running an MMO long term are too large in my mind to be covered by the initial price point.
