The Lord of the Rings MMO has a mix of optional subscription and paid for additional content. If you wanna do any quests outside the main one once you leave the starter zones, you have to buy them. This has worked really well for the gane apparently so maybe Marvel will try that.

The lack of character creation, if real, will be a major problem though.

Not really. Having played the DCU MMO, it really is ridiculous to have SuPaMaN running around with Superman.

If the set up is that you have multiple Spider-Men because each is from a different dimension or something, that would be cool.

If it's free to play, with optional paid content, I'll probably give it a chance if it's on PS3 or the 360 or whatever.

Is that really any better than Captain America going 'lol fags', though?

The lack of character creation completely kills any interest I had in this game. Entirely. It -will- be a problem for them in the long run. And I doubt it'll play like you're imagining. Chances are, it's going to be more 'you select a super that you want, if he's not already in the mission as that super', and play through the mission with your friends'. It will have an an array of supers available for free, with a 'character mall' to purchase additional heroes, maps, and missions.

Mark my words. :)

It does seem kinda odd that they'd leave off the character creation angle. And, yeah, I'd think the Initiative would be a sure-fire way to introduce said new characters.

I'm trying to keep an open mind, though. It might be fun. And breaking the mold a bit might not be a bad thing. And being free (or freer than the others) sounds like a step in the right direction.

Chances are, there'll be things like 'subscribers get preference to play their favorite characters over non-subscribers!' and on and on. The idea is to make it as frustrating as possible, without being completely intolerable, so that you'll pay them more money.

In short, get ready for this to suck. XD

Optional paid expansions like Guild Wars
