I don't get the confusion about SHIELD many of you seem to have.. what doesn't make sense? What isn't coherent? I read the first volume in trade, and it was fine. I loved it. I can't wait to read this one when the trade comes out, either.

I don't see anybody saying what was confusing or incoherent about it. Saying it's confusing and incoherent, then not giving examples just means you're dumb.

So, on the plus side, the finale to War of the Green Lanterns was delayed by a week.

However, Emperor Aquaman was not. Flashpoint: Emperor Aquaman #1 is the pick for next week.

Incoherent or confusing are not my problem with SHIELD--if anything I think it oversimplifies the Philosophy 101 debate at the heart of the Renaissance Faire gone bad within its pages so far. Where the philosophical arguments in The Nightly News were highly nuanced and thought-provoking, or in Pax Romana to a lesser degree but still worth a little time spent in consideration, SHIELD makes me yawn like I'm a TA for a low-level philosophy class reading through the paper of a bright student who clearly gets it but isn't going anywhere with it.

Marvel feel free to quote me for the second trade paperback there.

Leonardo Da Vinci vs. Isaac Newton for the control and future of SHIELD.

Newton is convinced that SHIELD is just a caretaker for the world, and that the world will end in 2060, and it's our fate to die. He wants to make that happen.

Da Vinci doesn't believe in fate, and offers eternity.

I don't know what is confusing here, honestly. A history of SHIELD, and a battle for it's future.

I see clearly now -- there are two sides. One full of men who believe that we are exactly who we are meant to be. Who accept the fate they have been given and find enlightenment in the embracing of it.

And the other comprised of men who believe that there is no possibility beyond their reach. That they are masters of their own destiny.

For years , these two ideas have warred within me. But I see now that this battle was a lie. I see clearly now.. a third way. And I will be a dynamo to power the change.

Leonid, from SHIELD #6.. basically tells you right there what it's about.

I trade wait on Criminal and Hellboy and this was awesome, so the pick was fine by me. Next week however is going to be fucking awful.
