That"s crazy, Criminal consistently has some of the best back-matter in comics, SHIELD is the phallocentric tale of a bunch of old dudes polishing each other's helmets.

Oh yeah, I'd also like to take the opportunity to offend his fans further by saying I don't think Hickman can write female characters well or is afraid to write them at all. Even his Sue Storm has been very masculine, like most of the characters in SHIELD.

It has some of the best comics, let alone the best back-matter.

It's unfortunate the backmatter doesn't get collected, but I can understand why.

However, Criminal (as most things) reads better in trade. I hope Brubaker puts out a Criminal Companion or something, with all the backmatter in it at some point.

He's talked about doing a companion book with just the backmatter, he's just not sure of how to do it and compensate the various people who have written the articles.

The latest Criminal read perfectly as single issue though. The techniques they're using this time are fit for it more than ever.

I would have picked Criminal but my LCS never orders enough for walk ins. I'd have to open a pull list to get that book monthly.

I didn't grasp this until this issue we just got.

Even so though I think issue 6 is a bit late for a limited series.

And I generally really enjoy Hickman's work.

Issue 6 was just where I got that quote from. Like, the issue after Da Vinci is revealed where he meets Isaac Newton for the first time.. I want to say #2 or #3, is where basically all that information is given, just not in one big quote. But there's even a big confrontation between the two.

Leonardo cannot really fit all his long flowing Renaissance hair into the average helmet, you see, without a bad case of helmet-head at the very least.
