Forgive the shittiness of the drawing. I just wanted to take a shot at this since I really do believe the Superman costume that DC unveiled is one of the worst designs I have seen for Superman.

I actually wanted the blue of the costume to be very dark, almost black, with the blue really only showing up on highlights. Obviously difficult to do with a ballpoint pen though.

Hope you guys like it. I kept some of the Jim Lee elements, and I thought the suit could work as a solar cell suit. So the red lines you see won't always be there. They show up basically for dramatic effect and when Supes is really exerting a lot of energy.

Here's another redesign I did a while ago.

I would make the jacket removable with similar red lines for the black suit underneath.

cool

Like every thing except the forearm piping. In a standing shot it looks ok, but would be hard to keep consistent when drawing him in action and various angles.

Good point. I like the piping on the suit, but it might be better to limit it to the waist and outer thighs. It brings definition to the suit and adds some color without making things too busy.

Well, again, the idea is that the piping wouldn't be visible most of the time. It would just be a seam most of the time. The the suit would 'separate' a bit and show the red piping when Supes was really using his powers, thereby adding a little visual flare during action scenes.

I really like the first one too.

The only suggestion I'd ever make to anyone doing a Superman redesign is to have some sort of solar-absorption element on his costume. I've always wondered why he didn't have one to keep himself powered up.

There really isn't much to change with Batman. I'd probably just end up ripping off the Batman: Arkham Asylum game design. I thought that worked pretty well in keeping iconic element and still looking like Batman. Better than the movies anyway.
