See the White Walkers I don't mind. They're pretty cool. They're obviously a bit out there, but they haven't been seen really.

These dragons spell trouble for me, especially in a low budget show. They conjure up memories of shitty fantasy novels and stories. Not really the type of thing for me.

Also nothing happened.

The bastard leaves the wall... goes back

Drogo is effectively dead... is dead...

the lannisters and the north are at war... still at war....

No-one died. There was no final scene. This was like the start of a season, not the end of one.

The books don't "end" though.. it's all one long story. And some elements of this episode were actually from the second book, even.

There's no real "end point" within the story..

Yeah I don't really know about the books, I just feel like last weeks episode (potentially with some of this weeks as well) would have been a better ending. Stuff like the wall preparing to go to war, or the imp moving about, wasn't that exciting. For a finale to a big season I guess I expected more.

Don't get me wrong. The previous 9 episodes were incredible, just very let down by this.

The Bastard goes all in with the Watch and gives up on his former life and heads north of the Wall with the watch. Danerys becomes basically the first female Khal and the mother of the first dragons in 300 years. Child dies, Drogo dies. Wraps up that part of her story and points to the next. Robb becomes King of the North, Tyrion becomes the Hand. Things did happen and season 2 and the dragon reveal and transformation of Danerys was a fine final scene.

What kind of final scene would you have preferred? Robb holding his sword high after a huge battle scene?

Not sure why fantasy things would bother you in a show based off fantasy novels. Dragons, wights, etc.

Does any of that stuff really matter? The Bastard goes all in at the Watch... I'd seen him do that about an episode before. He doesn't even go north of the wall, they start the jouney to go north of the wall. All set up there.

That guy becomes king of the north. So what? We'd already seen him lead these people, it was literally just to show they're still behind him.

Karl Drogo dies, he was already half dead. Then a dragons is born.A dragon I didn't expect, and am quite worried about.

An episode before he was thinking of leaving the Watch, this episode he tries to leave but finally is able to throw off his former life and embrace the Black. Resolves that part of Jon's character, he is totally part of the Watch now even with his family fighting for their lives to the south. Next season you can focus on the Watch and his role in that and where that takes him.

With Robb now its not just get Ned back and free the Starks its a full blown rebellion of the north. Robb becomes King. Sure the war is still on but now its more than just Starks and co vs the King, its vs the rest of the realm too. I'd say the stakes were raised quite a bit.

Three dragons are born, that is pretty huge. If that is the level of effects on the dragons they will be fine.

Fair enough you liked it. It just seemed a bit boring to me. The king of the north scene, that old man scene, the scene with the two advisors to the king. All boring repetitive stuff. Like I said it'd be a great season opener.

It was an epilouge episode, all falling action. The big climaxes were last episode.

Anyways the King of the North, the Dragons, the wall stuff is all incredibly important to the story.

I can't believe I never noticed this:

...and don't forget that we are introduced to the whole story with a dire wolf that had been killed by a stag.

I was under the impression that this deadly embrace symbolized the imminent demise of both Robert and Ned. One death was catalyst to the other. And the wolf pups survived, but were scattered amongst different care-takers.

Whilst this wasn't a season opener, I feel it was an opener of sorts, an opener to a show without Sean Bean and Ned Stark, the show needed to prove it was worth watching without him in Season 1, as if it didn't, there could have been a drop-off in Season 2.

Well yeah, but I didn't know that coming in. I expected a big all action finale!

Most HBO shows don't really go for big action finales, big events often happen in the penultimate episodes, like in The Wire, Stringer Bell's death happened with 1 ep to go in Season 3, it was the same with Omar in Season 5. In the Sopranos, it was the same. In the final season, the last episode was loose ends, hell, Christopher died with like 5 episodes to go.

I think all we can really say Twigg is that there will be conclusions to these stories, and that action is coming.

And, come on, Dragons are awesome. No matter how realistic this show can be, it is still a fantasy series.

The show didn't express that very well but in the book it was really obvious that the stag and wolf was an omen.
