So.. yeah. About that 14 eps.

They're going to be split up between 2012 and 2013.

2013 is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. Dunno why they're splitting them up, but they are.

There will not be a full series of Dr Who in 2012! BBC confirms that BBC One Controller said this earlier today. #drwho

BBC also says Danny Cohen's remark that short series was because Steven Moffat needed time to write Sherlock was meant to be light hearted.

The BBC has, of course, commissioned 14 new episodes of Dr Who (hurrah) so looks like some will go in 2012 and remainder in 2013.

The news was originally revealed by @WayneAClarke who was at a conferrence where Danny Cohen was speaking.

Worth repeating, BBC says Danny Cohen's comment that Steven Moffat needed time for Sherlock hence shorter DW run wasn't meant to be serious.

Bit of confusion, to summarise: no FULL 13 episode series of Dr Who in 2012. So some episodes will still go out in 2012. Remainder in 2013.

No further details about what more's happening in 2013 yet. But it's the 50th anniversary, so of course there will be some great stuff!

Don't know how many 2012 eps or what time of year they'll be broadcast. Just what Danny Cohen said earlier which was no FULL series in 2012.

No idea yet how many episodes in total in 2013. But, hey, it's still two years away.

God the BBC are run by a bunch of idiots. Maybe RTD was smart in shopping Torchwood to the States afterall.

No idea where the quote above is from (Twitter I expect), but Danny Cohen (the controller of BBC1) has indeed announced that there won't be a full season of Dr Who in 2012.
This isn't the first time since 2005's return of the series that a truncated season has been announced. Remember, most of Tenant's final episodes were "specials" in 2009.
Remember also that the BBC is a public service broadcaster and there is a tight budget squeeze on it being imposed by the Tory-dominated coalition government. So it won't be just Who.

It's not as if the show is cancelled outright.

I regard that as simply damage limitation. His role as showrunner is mostly creative; I'm not certain budgetary problems can be laid at his door. In fact, if there's any truth to last week's Private Eye article, it seems Moffat may have been working miracles to keep the show on the air at all.

There's some justification for suggesting he's been a bit economical with the facts in the recent past, particularly as regards the mid season break, and I'd be the first to agree some of his creative decisions have been dubious, but I think the real responsibility for this situation lies elsewhere. Let's hope this "cool stuff" he refers to is more than compensatory for the loss of half a season's worth of episodes.

For Father's Day, I received the box-set of the original Doctor Who (yay, wifey!) and I love it! William Hartnell's Doctor is a codgy old asshole and Susan Foreman is kinda hot.

Chesterton's okay. Barbara's completely useless, though.

Neil Gaiman was on the Late Late Show last night and he Craig bonded over Dr. Who, Myth Busters, and H.P. Lovecraft. Gave him two segments and cut the monologue and opening theme to make room.
