No idea where the quote above is from (Twitter I expect), but Danny Cohen (the controller of BBC1) has indeed announced that there won't be a full season of Dr Who in 2012. This isn't the first time since 2005's return of the series that a truncated season has been announced. Remember, most of Tenant's final episodes were "specials" in 2009. Remember also that the BBC is a public service broadcaster and there is a tight budget squeeze on it being imposed by the Tory-dominated coalition government. So it won't be just Who.

I regard that as simply damage limitation. His role as showrunner is mostly creative; I'm not certain budgetary problems can be laid at his door. In fact, if there's any truth to last week's Private Eye article, it seems Moffat may have been working miracles to keep the show on the air at all.
There's some justification for suggesting he's been a bit economical with the facts in the recent past, particularly as regards the mid season break, and I'd be the first to agree some of his creative decisions have been dubious, but I think the real responsibility for this situation lies elsewhere. Let's hope this "cool stuff" he refers to is more than compensatory for the loss of half a season's worth of episodes. http://www.private-eye.co.uk/sections.p ... nk=eye_tv&
