Annihilation 1, 2, and 3

Wanted to read them but was putting it off for a long time. Newengland Comics had a 3 for 2 TPB sale and I couldn't put it off any longer.

This was an awesome read.
For a few years that I've been looking for reprints of some stories that I read in my childhood and loved, and one was the main story of this book. It hold up very very well to the passing of time. The dialogue is still good and the art manages to stay very up to date.
But the added bonus came in the first 2 chapters that reprinted a story with the Black Knight that I'd lost hope in finding.

Recommended to anyone that likes Dr Strange or comics with fantasy and the arcane arts.

Just finished the first four Classic GI Joe trades... that stuff holds up a lot better than I expected.

The first 5-6 trades are awesome. I'm in Vol. 9 now and it's starting to go downhill a bit. The team is just too bloated. Hamma must've been pulling his hair out trying to figure out how to utilize Battleforce 2000. Those guys sucked. I'm hopeful it gets better again. The focus appears to be on the ninjas/Zartan at the moment...

Haha, yeah... some of the later Joe stuff got a little weird.
But I am looking forward to getting a few more trades... two or three at a time until I lose interest.

and

The Sword Volume 4: Air

Good series, but not great. Having read plenty of praise for The Lunas, I was surprised that their storytelling ability was wholly reliant on exposition. The part where the protagonist gets her jaw punched off was the only real holy shit moment of the series for me. I did like how they ended it though.

About to start...

Echo: The Complete Edition (Hardcover)

I was going to wait a bit on this as I have a mountain of new stuff to read, but reading Rachel Rising earlier has me excited to go back and read Echo as a completed work.

Path of the Planeswalker, Volume 2

The art is, for the most part, absolutely gorgeous. It is worth it for the art alone. The story isn't bad, and you can enjoy it even if you don't care about Magic the Gathering.

But if you played some MTG you'll love to see characters like Chandra or Nicol Bolas among others interact with each other.

Ben Stenbeck is amazing. Mignola has a real knack of choosing the right artist for each book that he does, and Dave Stewart's colors tie the whole Hellboy-ish universe together, by keeping with the same tone throughout each comic. This was a short lived mini where not much happened and yet a lot happened, with the new mini starting it will be interesting to see where we go from here.

The depth that Urasawa has dug into with some of these characters is immense. The background of the two priests and how they've come to be where they are was a nice parallel to the current story. I could see what was coming at the end, that being said this book continues to be one of the best on the stands, and it will be a sad day when its finished.

And with this volume the series that I once loved, whimpers its way to a close for now. The last issue felt like they didn't know whether they'd get to do another volume or not. The return of the use of the crytpoids was nice. This was a solid story, but a shadow of what it once was.

Each time a new Yang book comes out I find myself comparing it to his previous works. Which one is better, why etc. It comes down to the fact that I haven't not enjoyed one single thing he has released so far. The thing more impressive than that is the fact that comics isn't even his full time job , he does it on the side. Standing ovation sir.

Locke and Key has become one of those comics that I will recommend to people first before anything else. Each volume has it's own story whilst adding the overall plot of the book. The art has never missed a beat and the calvin and hobbesesque art in this volume was gorgeous.

Yesterday I finished:

And its awesome. Continues the first one perfectly. Ex-wife post freezing plan to take down Spider, revenge seeking castrated dog cop and a bunch more dysfunctional sub-cultures for Spider to spew his hate filled and drug induced (almost) sane POV.

Transmetropolian Vol 3 and Vol 4 are awesome. Spider becomes a bigger drug addict then he was, gets laid, makes a friend (?) and takes a unwillingly part in the elections.
