Superhero Hype revealed the first pic of Henry Cavill as Superman in the upcoming Man of Steel movie.  In a shocking twist, the picture revealed that Superman was missing his signature red underwear outside of his pants.

This lack of red underwear, long a symbol of Superman's allegiance to America, only adds speculative fuel to the fire (fanned exclusively by the Outhouse) that the new version of Superman will be some sort of hipster...or even worse, a San Francisco liberal.

One unnamed source close to someone that occasionally reads Superman was quoted as saying "Superman, sans pants?!  Outrage! Next thing you'll tell me is they've hired Laurence Fishburne as Perry White!"

I was kind of hoping they'd do something completely different with the costume. Why is Superman the only character that producers feel need to wear his exact comic book costume?

I have a costume card that has a small piece of the Superman Returns costume on it. It had the scale textures as well. Just not that big of scales.

I still have problems with a non-American playing Superman though.
