"Here's your shitburger, now with mustard!"

Seriously, this is the most asinine "promotion" I've ever seen in my life.

Well sure. I made the erroneous assumption that we were speaking of the $3.99 cover price at the LCS versus the cost of the trade at the same. So the argument really becomes "why would you ever purchase this in any form outside of discounted online retailers...other than to support your LCS." Which I endorse, but can't necessarily afford.

I'm reading less in less Marvel, it's not just the price, it's what you get FOR that price. I just don't find that a lot of their books have been worth THREE dollars, let alone FOUR.

I also suspect the $4 price tag will remain even when these "extra" pages inevitably disappear! :-(

For popular titles such as Avengers, regular issues are $4, while extra-size issues are $5. I can see the pricing be set because they're not only going to sell, but to "cut back costs".

You truly believe these comics were ever to be sold for $5 each? I think this was planned as a "reduction" from the start.
Doesn't make it any more palatable, even with the "extra" pages.

X-Men: Schism #1 was $5 with "extra content" and it sold out.

I can't handle a $5 monthly, but I only purchase "premium" comics if they're worth it (ex: Uncanny X-Force).

That's irrelevant to the question I posed. I think it's pretty obvious this "price reduction" was planned from the start and that there was never any intention to charge $5 for the titles concerned.
By the way, by "sold out" you mean at the publisher don't you? I still see plenty of unsold copies of Schism #1 on the LCS shelves even now.
