It feels weird to type that. Action Comics #1, I own a copy of Action Comics #1. Freaky. I’m not sure about this one at the moment, I like it, but I think I like the idea of it more than the way Morrison and Morales executed it. The whole, working class hero, Bruce Springsteen, Depression-Era Superman thing sounds amazing, but we didn’t get enough of that in this issue, instead what we got was an extended action scene. Now of course the book is called Action Comics, and so there should be plenty of action, and this issue had some truly exciting scenes, Morales’ art looked better here than ever, but I think I actually want more exposition here. I feel like Morrison just kind of dropped me in at the deep end, and while that was probably his intent, it didn’t fully work for me. This issue is supposed to be defining the new Superman, but it barely scratched the surface. I get the feeling that Morrison is waiting for later issues to fully explore and explain what’s going on, so I’ll withhold judgement until then, and I’ll need to read it again, but for now, this issue had too much Action and not enough Superman.

I wasn't sure what to think of this one. I kinda liked him, but it also seemed like a weird fit for superman (the personality). It almost seemed like DC kept seeing other people do superman better with superman rip off characters and wanted to get in on the fun, but it just doesn't quite fit. Could just be something that I need to get used to.

Side note: I thought that scene in your avatar was hilariously badly drawn almost in the way Liefield Cap is. His waste is almost as small as his neck there. It was weird enough for me to notice and I usually don't notice crap like that.

I thought the overall story was interesting though and will definitely check out issue 2.

I'm surprised, I thought you were going to like this Punchy, maybe I'm wrong.

Oh well, I'm prepared for when I get a copy down the road.

I do like it, just not as much as the idealised version of it I had in my head thanks to the preview pages and Morrison's interviews.

I'm posting in here so there's more posts in the Action Comics thread. I'm thinking of dropping something for this, sounds good.

I think you'll like it, it's fresh and aims for a more realistic tone.

Hmm, those preview pages had me thinking more brightly on this title then before. Now, I'm not so sure given what you just said.

But then, it's one issue and Morrison.

Yeah, I fucking hated that. The only thing out of the five comics I got that I did not like.

He looked like a backwards 7 year old. Bad decision from Morales.

And the inevitable "Do you yell at your Morales comics?" thread.

What I understood of it was pretty awesome. I'm not actually sure why Lois was in trouble. It's like a missed a page somewhere.

But I like Superman and I'm digging Clark Kent.

Maybe a second, third, and fourth read will help out. And then someone can explain it to me.

He looked like he should be on the set of The Big Bang Theory.
