The FIFA 12 thread

Postby fieldy snuts » Tue Sep 13, 2011 8:23 am

I DL'ed the PC demo to get me through till it hits PSN. Using Motionjoy to use my PS3 controller on there to get a feel for it.

link from EA's website:
http://static.cdn.ea.com/fifa/u/f/fifa1 ... all_eu.zip

First thoughts, glitchy as hell. The new Impact Engine which is supposed to make tackles more realistic? Well....I've had one or two similar experiences to this :lol: :

Barca's team stat's are insane:
D.Villa = 91
Xavi and Iniesta = 92
Messi = 95.
And then their low-tier players like Fabregas who's currently on 89 :lol:

Passing was further butchered and is weak as hell now. I get they wanted to get rid of the ping pong aspect from everything that came before 10 but it's frustrating...even moreso than 11.

Crosses into volleys and headers don't seem to be as cheap as they were in 11. Players actually need to be set rather than make crazy dashes and ping ponging the ball into the net out of nowhere.

Commentary...Martin Tyler doesn't seem to have recorded anything new. Same stuff. And Alan Smith sounds like he couldn't wait to get out of the recording booth, poor substitute for Andy Grey and his sexist remarks at female linesmen.

Defending is a lot trickier to time.

Animations/player movement were improved. So was the crowd...still room for improvement given that we're on HD gaming, EA's being slack as usual.

As in 11, Messi might as well be on perpetual god mode.

So yeah, better than 11 but not exactly the perfect FIFA game we've all wanted in terms of gameplay. Now I'm just worried about Manager Mode and online gameplay.

Wonder if my customized Real Madrid and Man City teams will still be good enough for online...Barca's stats are just ridiculous so I'm expecting every kid to just pick them again.

This is awesome. Thanks for what you said. Defending does seem a lot harder.

You had a look at Uniteds teams stats?

Tactical defending is harder actually. Turn it off it's like 11 all over again. I hope it's a default on online games though. There's also an option to use 'be a goalkeeper' DURING matches when you're defending using R1.

United for some stupid reason got replaced by Man Shitty, complete with Etihad Stadium...guess EA becoming their sponsor paid off :smt013

Arsenal, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Marseilles and Milan are the teams available.

Here's the Man Utd starting 11 stats BTW:

Anderson's rating is disappointing given his hot start this year.

Maybe they were out of position and FIFA knocked down the ratings. But those are supposed to be default startings.

I've seen a few photoshopped, but as far as I know they aren't out yet. Thought they might be out today.

Can't wait for this, I normally start off with a bit of ultimate team, then move on to Be a Pro!

I hate ultimate team. The concept is good, but the contract system is a blatant money grab which kills my interest.

Is there a trick? By the time I save up coins for gold packs too many of my players have expired :(

edit: oh yeah, this is where those Man Utd ratings were from:

Never buy packs! Just buy a few players, and work your way up from there. Offline tournaments are great as well.

Basically use the online market (I assume you have online!), rather than buy packs. It shouldn't be hard once you get going.

But when the contracts expire? So I have to blow copious amounts of coins in the market every 8 games for a replacement player?

I decided to up the difficulty to Professional and the AI basically wiped the floor with me. I'm a guy that can hold my own on World Class but the Tactical Defending murdered me. Simply put, you screw up slightly and you will get burned badly....Van Persie tore right through my defense multiple times and it seemed like he was anticipating my slides and presses by simply sidestepping around me by turning on the dime and leaving me in the dust while i was still pressing the Square, X and O buttons.

What I did was play 3 or 4 games offline with the team you get given. That gets you about 1200 coins if you've done a tournament. With that buy two players (when you search look at the contract they already have) and then buy contracts for them. I remember after five games last year I just had granero and etherington on about 35 contracts.
