Wonder Woman #1

Postby jeremy » Thu Sep 22, 2011 12:01 pm

Anyone else check this out this week?

I really enjoyed the direction they are going on this and I hope they stick with the more supernatural/monster/god stuff and not the normal superhero stuff we see in every comic. It was cool watching WW using her sword, hacking enemies down and stuff.

I quite liked it. The artwork was very bold and Chiang draws her new costume in a way I actually like.
However, Liefeld is an enigma wrapped in a pouch-filled, muscular, footless conundrum.

I'll be doing my review this week. I liked it but it lacked a lot for a first issue.

I was a little concerned when I heard that Azazello wanted to make this into a horror title, but if this is what he is describing as "horror" then I guess I can live with it.

This wasn't bad at all. The art was good and I liked the way that the god-characters not only looked nothing like an average human being (as compared to how they are usually portrayed in either DC or Marvel), but that they didn't even try to appear anything like a human. I also liked that this new Wonder Woman is all about kick @$$ and taking names - a welcome change from all of the exposition heavy storytelling we've had to endure for the longest time with the character.

My only gripe - and it is kind of a big one - is that this feels more like a second issue than a first. All of the characters are just sort of thrown out there with no real introductions or presentation. They just... are. If the DCnU is supposed to be new-reader friendly, then this was very much not. Heck, by that standard it wasn't really old-reader friendly.

Still, I am intrigued enough to keep reading.

This sounds interesting, especially if they're going to juxtapose Diana (the pretty princess) to grotesque & gore (is that what they're claiming is the "horror" element?)

seems to be so far yeah. this issue, she's fighting mythical monsters/creatures in an American Gothic style setting with lots of blood and guts and stuff raining down. a pretty cool take.
