Just wifi? I would wait then.

I pre-ordered the Kindle Touch 3G.

Gonna give the Fire until the start of the new year.. we'll see what else is on the horizon in terms of a new iPad or whatever. I'll make a decision on it then.

Yeah, the lack of 3G is a bummer. But I don't think you'd be able to get it for under $300 with 3G, and you'd probably be paying a monthly fee along with that.

Yeah, with the Kindle no charges for the 3G outside of initial price but something like the Fire, i'd guess they need a data plan to put in 3G. Still there are enough hotspots that I'm not too worried about not have some connection.

I don't have Wi-Fi at my house. I suppose I could always set one up, but I had it before and it got messed up, and I'm too lazy to get a new router and everything.

Anyway.. that's why I'm going for the 3G kindle. But if I got a Fire, I'd probably just set up wifi. It's a crazy good pricepoint for all that you get, plus a free month of Amazon Prime. It's worth it.

bkthomson, thanks a lot for the Liveblog!

I knew you guys would have something on the Fire.

I'm not sure if this is an iPad killer or not, but the Nook Color is kinda hurting right now.

I've got a budget Tablet that I'm really happy with, but I wil probably get one for my mom.

One thing I'm confused about tho.

Is this an ANDROID tablet or does it have a different OS? Amazon Market is pretty decent but there are still things you can't get on it(like Comixology AFAIK, but its not like that's an issue for my mom).

Again, thanks for this, bkthomson!

I ordered one. It's cheap enough that I can justify the purchase as an entry to digital comic reading, and sometime in the future upgrade to a ten inch, preferably when Amazon comes out with one.

You'll be able to get comicology on this if it sells as well as expected. Or Amazon will come out with its own better way to distribute digital comics.

There have long been rumors that Amazon was actually working on two tablets.

The Fire, and another codenamed "Hollywood"..

I assume "Hollywood" would be a higher end iPad-like device. It's possible they're holding off on that until iPad 3 comes out, to compete with that.

Comixology is available for it. They had a comixology icon on the screen during the presentation, in the apps..

I don't see it as an iPad killer. But it could definitely split the field, with iPad taking the high-end and Fire taking the low-end.. this will probably kill the Nook Color and whatever other cheaper 7" tablets are out there, simply for Amazon's large library of movies, tv, and music.

It's an Android tablet, and is based off Android 2.3 (I think.. though I have also read 2.1) but it is almost unrecognizeable from stock Android, because they've worked alot on it apparently.

It's a kindle for comics, movies, music, games and web browsing, basically. I think it might change the way people think about tablets. The iPad is a computer that can do those things. This is pretty much a device solely for doing those things. I like it, because an iPad isn't as good as a laptop at being a computer.

Is 7" big enough for comic books?

It's big enough. But I think the iPad is ideal.

Still, though... only $199!!

What Chris said. A ten inch screen is about the same size as a comic book page and therefore perfect, but people (Chris included) read comics on the nook color adequately. The fact that you can easily pinch to zoom in makes it workable for such a low price point.
