Oh yeah, I've been saying DC needed new blood in the writing department for a long time too, and have never been a fan of Johns or anything although some of the early stuff was more readable than the more-recent stuff to me. And in their poll, I made it clear which books I liked and why, these were almost invariably writers new to the DCU or its fringes, I, Vampire, Animal Man, etc. With the exception that I liked the first issue of OMAC very much as well, quite a surprise to me at the time. But other than that, most of the new books by writers you'd typically associate with DC before September ended up in the "not for me" pile.
Not everyone has my taste though. And most of the new line sold so well at the start that it's impossible yet to determine which readers will stay with longer-term, but I think DC has reacted extremely quickly to the few books that were just plain-old duds. Which I think Firestorm is an example of. But it's Gail Simone, of course, her fans may buy Firestorm anyway.
