The article is up

Jude, I need to get with you and maybe we can make another template for the book club.. the reading realms one doesn't work quite right for it and the standard review one was weird too. It also doesn't put the thread in the 'book' section of the forum or give me the option to do so.

The write up from Publisher's Weekly (and I suspect from the back of the book):

On Amazon its getting 3-5 stars. Its cheap, widely available, not too long, and looks both cool and interesting. What'd'ya say?

I had suggested this or perhaps the first Felix Castor book.

Is Felix Castor the Mike Carey series? I think I picked up a few of those in HC bargain bins. Not sure which is the first, but that would be cool if I already have it.

Yes it is.
The Devil You Know is the first one. But it sorta just jumps right in.

I read it already. Didn't really hit me like it hit Nieto, though.

You might also want to check out The Devil's Hand, by M.E. Patterson. Set in Vegas. It's about the luckiest man alive fighting angels and demons and shit. Sorta.

I finally picked up Ex-Patriots. Liked that better than Ex-Heroes.

I am willing to re-read Castor. Ex-heroes didn't get any real distribution this side of the border. I may not be able to join if Ex-patriots is the same.

I wasn't trying to make any official recommendation. Just mentioning it off-hand.

well if we can get some more people in here with comments or ideas in the next few days that's fine, it doesnt have to be Castor

I'm still interested in the Morden book, but Castor would draw comments to the review section. The Hunger Games thread probably drew the most attention, because so many liked the book, and there are others at the Outhouse who enjoy Carey's series.

I'm up for anything, but The Devil's Hand looks good.

It was kinda interesting. Most "urban fantasy" stories start all in medias res, like Dresden or Castor; you already see the hero well into his career of kicking evil in its ass.

This was more of an origin story.

But I will say this; angels and demons are starting to get as over-exposed as vampires. As a result, the twists he throws in, while well-written, are predictable. In angel/demon stories, you've already seen this same twist, and it's already getting old.

But he does have a really cool monster in the story, which has nothing to do with angels or demons.

I was going to skip the next one, I'm reading The Stand, but I have the Devil You Know so I'm up for it.
