NYCC News Flash: Rick Remender to write Secret Avengers

Postby LOLtron » Sat Oct 15, 2011 11:23 am

NYCC News Flash: Rick Remender to write Secret AvengersRick Remender will follow Warren Ellis as the writer of Secret Avengers come February.

Newsarama is reporting that Rick Remender will be the new writer on Secret Avengers in February 2012 with Gabriel Hardman taking on art duties.  Remender, best known for his work on the critically-acclaimed Uncanny X-Force series, will be ushering the book into a new era with a new team line-up and mission.

The team will see the departure of Steve Rogers as team leader and the additions of Hawkeye and Captain Britain, with the former taking Rogers place as leader of the team.  The Secret Avengers will be battling a new Masters of Evil team as well as Adaptoids, Avenger hunting robots based off of the original Super-Adaptoid in the vein of mutant hunting Sentinels.

While Remender was sparse on more details, the cover provided for Secret Avengers 21.1 reveals a new, Ultimate style costume for Hawkeye and a woman cosplaying as the Queen of Diamonds.

Very interesting news, but as long as the book remains $4 for 20 pages I won't be buying it. And I'm considering dropping Uncanny X-Force once the Dark Archangel saga is concluded as well.

I saw Remender's name and this was immediately dropped. Then I saw Hawkeye, Capt. Britain, MoE, and Adaptoids...and now I'm conflicted again. Dammit, Marvel!

He's pretty good at tweaking that kind of fan-favorite stuff, I'm not gonna lie.

Cool news, Remender's X-Force is probably the best team-book Marvel have at the moment, so I expect this will be good.

Also, Captain Britain! Yay!

I might pick this up. Bru's run was not his best work, but the team was an interesting lineup that could be fun. The additions to the team are characters I like, as well.

Remender is writing Secret X-Men and Secret Spider-man, so Secret Avengers doesn't seem like a stretch.

Remender and Hawkeye make me love it. Then I see no Captain America but in his place we get Capt Britain and thats a massive fail for me.

If you're not reading Uncanny X-Force, you're a dummy. One of the best Marvel books on the stands.

this book has gone through 3 creative teams in a year and a half and none of them have been able to make it anything but a barely par comic.

Maybe Remender can turn it around, but I am not holding out hope
