Judge Death painting, in progress.....

Postby Mark Pacich » Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:48 pm

Here is my 2nd painting in the "Judges" series. It's getting there.

I would love to hear some feedback.

Thanks,

Mark

What? Nobody's going to leave a message for this guy, I mean this is a amazing painting. What did you do this in oil or acrylic. If you did it in oil then thats amazing I'f you did it acrylic then you must be some sort of God because that stuff dries so fast I can do a damned thing with it!

LOL....thanks for the message and the compliment. :D

The painting is Acrylic. I can do oil paintings, but having my small children around, I decided against it for safety reasons...with the smell, turpentine, etc...

I am almost finished with the piece...I will be sure to add some more pics later this week.

Thanks again...

Mark

Yup you are a god, or you made some kind of packed with the devil, ( he's a witch he's a witch I say, burn him!). Oh! what was I writing about? Well I have cintiq 12wx, maybe I should give it to you because my digital paintings are nowhere as good as your traditional work. Did you build the panting up in layers, did you use any reference for color or did do some preliminary sketches to paint from. I want to understand your process so maybe I can use it in my own work.

Love the shadows and textures. Great job on this, and the previous Judge Dread painting you showed around here.
The witness said Mr Brown then called out to Ms Hay's adult daughter: "Look at this, I'm tittie-f***ing your mother!".

@Oni2030...I do preliminary sketches on typing paper just to see how big I want the figure to be...and to see what type of pose I can use. I draw the figure on the canvas with pencil...making alot of corrections in the process. I have to step back from the canvas alot to see if everything is proportional. Working on a big canvas...it is easy to make things way out of proportion.

I do paint in layers, always painting a "base color", so that when I do the shadows, highlights, and details...I am not painting directly on white, bare canvas.

I sometimes look at fabric or metal, to see how light reflects off of it...but alot of the time, I simply guess. I am sure if someone really disects my work, they will find spots where the shadows of highlights don't make sense based on the "light source"...but that is ok.

I really appreciate the feedback. Hopefully i can put the kids to bed early and get this one done this week.

@Covalesky...

I agree...it appears that when you do a series of pics...they get better as they go on from one to another. I am doing Judge Mortis last...that one will probably turn out to be the best one.

Almost finished....

(The color on the left elbow pad is just a base color. It will look like the other one when finished).

Thanks,

Mark

I have to say, that I thought this thread was titled "Jude Death painting, in progress".

I pictured Jude dressed up like Judge Death...
