Not much happens in this issue at all really, but it was decent nonetheless. Johns dials down the aggressive ‘AQUAMAN IS TOTALLY AWESOME YOU GUYS’ thing a bit, and it’s more natural. Although he does shift a little to ‘MERA IS TOTALLY AWESOME TOO YOU GUYS’ instead, and Mera will never be awesome. Ivan Reis’ art was great as per usual, and there’s also another plotline introduced with the mysterious person in Arthur’s photo-album. The Trench are a cool visual, but they aren’t that interesting, let’s hope #3 will make me like them better.

Mera actually is, in fact, awesome. i do NOT however like the new "Mera is a raging bitch" vibe Johns inserts this issue.

other than that, i pretty much agree with you, Punch: there's just not much here. the art is freaking beautiful, but the Trench are boring, Aquaman's still boring, i'm still tired of every bit character commenting about what Aquaman can and can't do, and this story doesn't feel epic or even all that important in any way. 2 issues in and it's basically just a small group of humanoid piranha terrorizing about 15 people on a dock. big whoop.

this book is gonna need something more than just Reis's art to keep me on-board longer than 5-6 issues.

I may have asked this before, but are there any red-haired female characters you don't like?

You know nothing of Mera.
It's particualrly sad that even Geoff Johns knows better than you.

If you're referencing a comic that predates Punchy reading comics (2001, imo), then you'll only reinforce his stance.

What it reinforces is the existence of Punchy's ignorance.

Mera fucking sucks, end of story.

And I started reading comics in 1997.

Awww, I think I made Punchy mad.
Which makes me happy. :-D
And thus, the balance is maintained.

I've only read less than a handful of Mera and I've liked what I've seen.

Every character can be written well given the right writer.

I miss the days when giant fists where the norm for energy created powers.
