Waits is ok. Kinda get that vibe from his fans that because they are getting the chance to like something that isn't mainstream, they like it more than they should. His cover of Roxanne was good.

The Roxanne cover isn't Tom Waits. It's from the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge.

Just want to add my voice to those that love and appreciate Waits's music.
Having been a fan since my older sister bought Heart of Saturday Night when I was ten, I'm used to people not "getting" him or why I would like him.
