LSH and LL both lost about 3,000 copies in sales last month. Legion books are still in the middle of the 52, but dragging behind the trad. DC titles.

Translation: Not truly rebooting hasn't helped sales. Still too early to tell what sales will be when the "52 pickup" goes away.

You can tack on about 8,000 units of sales to both Legion Lost #1 and Legion of Superheroes #1 from October backorder sales.

235 4.77 LEGION LOST #1 $2.99 DC 8,226

240 4.59 LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #1 $2.99 DC 7,923

So, Nacireman, is 53,000 units more or less than the Threeboot's debut? Failure indeed.

Does that put the Legion books any higher up the sales charts relative to the rest of the "Nu-52?" probably by not much.

Compared to the delusional expectations of Legion fans who thought bringing "back" the "real" Legion would launch the book back to the top of the charts where it was in the early 80's, the new-Classic relaunch has been a total flop.

The Legion in the 60s, when the fans were young, sold incredibly well from what i understand.

But it's been a long time since anyone really cared about them

The Legion of Superheroes will never match its peak sales from the 1970's. Never.

Hell, no comic will reach those sales. However, the Legion series is far from a flop.

By framing it by comparing its sales to the Threeboot, which was a more economically viable time for comics, I'd say it was a success.

Of course, if we listen to the delusion voices of supposed Legion fans (who may or may not exist), then yes the relaunch failed because Legion isn't selling a million copies an issue.

No-one sane has ever claimed that. This is why this thread is pointless, you're not arguing against anyone.

You obviously never read the Legion threads from OldRama then.

Yes, it's unnatural to believe Legion could sell the number of copies it did back in the day. But there were posters back at OldRama who claimed all Legion needed to return to the top of the sales charts was to bring back the "Real Legion"

OldRama hasn't been around for years. No one on this site has ever argued this.

So if it didn't happen here, it doesn't matter or didn't happen. Right?

Most of the Legion posters from OldRama who argued with me over how bringing the "real" Legion back would restore the book to past glories are here.

Legion fandom claimed that bringing back the "original" team would launch the book back up the sales charts. So I guess a lot of people expected a lot more.

Since DC obviously isn't serious about making the Legion a viable property, it's not a surprise it's failing.

Marc-Oliver Frisch's analysis of the first issue if the current Legion series

47 - THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
09/2006: Supergirl & LoSH #22 -- 36,735
09/2007: Supergirl & LoSH #34 -- 28,294
09/2008: LoSH #46 -- 24,959
---------------------------------------
09/2010: LoSH #5 -- 32,417 (- 5.3%)
10/2010: LoSH #6 -- 30,246 (- 6.7%)
11/2010: LoSH #7 -- 26,439 (- 12.6%)
12/2010: LoSH #8 -- 25,063 (- 5.2%)
01/2011: LoSH #9 -- 24,230 (- 3.3%)
02/2011: LoSH #10 -- 23,738 (- 2.0%)
03/2011: LoSH #11 -- 23,667 (- 0.3%)
04/2011: LoSH #12 -- 23,419 (- 1.1%)
05/2011: LoSH #13 -- 23,105 (- 1.3%)
06/2011: LoSH #14 -- 22,600 (- 2.2%)
07/2011: LoSH #15 -- 21,788 (- 3.6%)
08/2011: LoSH #16 -- 21,373 (- 1.9%)
09/2011: LoSH #1 -- 50,402 (+135.8%)
-----------------
6 months: +113.0%
1 year : + 55.5%
5 years : + 37.2%

The 2010 relaunch, helmed by Paul Levitz, sold 44,415 units in its first month, Jim Shooter’s return to the book in 2007 managed 45,803, the first “One Year Later” issue sold 47,426 units in 2006, and the Mark Waid/Barry Kitson version launched in 2004, finally, shifted an estimated 50,691 units with its debut issue.

The “New 52″ series, once again helmed by Levitz, comes in at pretty much the exact same number as that latter comic.

Translation: The DCnU neo-Classic Legion didn't do any better than any Legion "relaunch" in the past seven years. Not a good sign.
